See y'all in the morning.  I had so much to get done at home and as I was almost ready to go to the Cove I realized I forgot to make the salsa for the taco shark so I went out and got the goods and made the salsa.  I'll be there early to launch and ready to slay some fish.  The best weather will be Monday thru Thursday if folks want to get on some epic fishing.
Future reports this week will contain salmon, tons of big rockfish and lings over 38" as well as some big Pacific halibut cuz that's how me and my friends roll.  Go big or go home.

Today:  salmon bites - very scarce.  A couple of Cali halibut caught but didn't get more detail...

The past two days for some - big cabs.  At least 2 over 26" and they are on the chew!

Tomorrow...  Holy shit - I just looked at the forecast!  Wind looks to be up.

I predict a few Cali's will come into play.

Tourney day came up with a pretty nasty forecast.  Right from sunrise the ocean was in a bad way - there were huge and unorganized wind waves coming inshore from strong winds out at sea.  Albion from a couple years back came to mind, but some of these steep waves with rolling tops were getting volatile.  At around 7 or 730 someone got tossed.  People responded well and no one was hurt, but conditions looked like they were just going to degrade.  After a while and another capsizing I made the call on the radio for everyone to come toward port and fish inside of a line between the launch and the green can.  I revised that to a line between the lighthouse and green can after a bit, and then after a while I opened things up again with a warning not to get too far out.  Conditions actually mellowed a little during the day, but it wasn't good out there.

Lingcod were on the chew for some, but no second tourney species came in.  At least one salmon was lost - no salmon landed for the event weekend and maybe one or two others lost on pre-fishing days.  3 Californias were landed Friday, so that was cool.  No Pacifics, but the charter boat got a 50 pounder just outside of our position Saturday - that was our fish!!

All in all the group was safe, respectful and supportive of each other.  People had fun and the Cove residents were good to us.

We have a dynasty on our hands, as big Terry Saufferer / Jacks took 1st place by several inches with two lings over 30" - with an unprecedented 3rd GS victory we're talking legend status right there!  Ron and Terry also took the team title.  Amos bagged the "Killer Catch" trophy with a fat 33" lingcod.  Forrest Johnson got the Sportsman of the Day trophy for assisting with a rescue and communicating it nicely on the VHF.  Brandi got the GS11 Vibe trophy for her tireless efforts in Gyotaku, and she also handed out 6 custom Gyotaku awards to child volunteers and a couple of key adults who support the effort.  Roger and Dennis Shu took home the GS11 Communitas trophy for the phenomenon that is known as "Shuland" - we are so lucky to have their energy and generosity and to be able to share such quality time.

Killer raffle prizes were awarded, about $6K in charity proceeds went 50-50 to PIF and HOW, the potluck was a smash, the Taco Shack was a total Pro Show, and true Love was flowing - this is what we do.

The highlight of the weekend revolved around Steph, as we focused our energy on acknowledging and communicating our feelings and sending strong support to our beloved community member.

The photo roll is long, and there's much more storytelling to do.  I'll put up a report post if there isn't already one.

Thank you, everybody, for helping me make the event what it was.  :smt001

Congrats to Terry and Ron for the individual+team domination!  Sounds like those were some uber-tough fishing conditions--the type of day where you need to make every bite count.  Looking forward to fishing with you guys this year, and at GS-12!

I admit, the ominous weather forecast for this weekend lessened the sting of missing GS this year...but only a little bit.  Looking forward to seeing more pics of the event!

Got in Friday afternoon instead of noon. My suspension somehow leaked and my car went really low, hitting the pave every time I break or turn. As soon as we pull up to shuland, its a feast as usual. Warmed the adobo and it was nonstop feast from there. I didnt get to fish on the tourney, went out for an hour, it was nasty. Went back in, took me longer to prepare than being on the water. My apology to my team. Next time fellas. Though, I didnt get fish, I still had an awesome time. Seeing everyone and meeting new people! It is an honor to be at shuland! My family is asking and want to come again!

Couple of shout outs! Eric for continued success of GS and for all his hard work! Looking forward for the next year already. Taco shack and crew as always its superb team work everyone! all that hard work made the tacos extra special! Dennis and Roger thanks for allowing us to stay at Shuland, the superb cooking was non-stop, the crab feast was amazing! To Salty thanks for the gifted fillets and carcass I didnt went home empty handed. Lastly Bradley thank you bro for taking my kayak with you. It help lessen the worries of overloading my car! Thank you everyone and as always its great to see you all!
