It was nice seeing you and Gus, Eric.  We went out again yesterday.  So much fun.  Those rocks are absolutely teeming with life.

Day 2 with Gus.

Having seen a favorable forecast I arrived at the Cove yesterday looking for slick-calm water, but heavy wind chop coming in from the outside had nearshore waters looking pretty raspy. Gus was up for trying out the kayaks, so we geared up and got on the water for a tour. It wasn't an ocean I would've taken a total noob on - Gus has a powerboat and has done canoeing and other water sports, so we went for it. He handled the steep and mixed swell really well and enjoyed the experience, but the fish weren't biting well as the tide was dropping to a midday minus.

By late morning we wrapped up the boating and headed for our dive location. Met up with a friend of Gus', Steve, and he joined us for the session. Water was clearer than Monday, but the chop and an occasional beefy set from the west added to the challenge. Success was achieved and fun was had as we found plenty of abs and other critters along the reef.

We parted ways early afternoon and I headed back to the ramp to organize my gear and decide on my afternoon itinerary - nice to have some options since I didn't need to get the kids from school this day. As I hung out enjoying the sun and gentle water in the Cove I saw that the outside waters had mellowed a lot since the morning. Twenty minutes later I was dropping herring on the reef, and now the lings and rockies were biting much better. Saw several whales including moms with calves, chased some birds around hoping for a salmon to bite my barbless hooks, and ended up grabbing some fresh white meat for dinner. Wrapped it up and basked in 80 degree temps on the drive home late afternoon.

Enjoyed getting out with you, Gus, and nice to meet you, Steve. Shelter Cove is where it's at!  :smt001

Eric, Glad You and Gus made the weather window to fish and dive the cove, and nice work with the abs and getting out Gus.  I considered a cove or Tdad dive trip Tuesday but couldn't make it happen.

Gear's in.

My printer ended up getting wires crossed on the color for the hoodies, so "Solid Charcoal" got ordered, instead of "Charcoal Heather" that I'd chosen.  I'm letting them off the hook.  Solid Charcoal it is!  They look good.

Everything else looks good and will be fun to hand out and get everybody all decked out in.

I got a few extra hats and shirts - hit me up at the event if you're wanting anything.
