San Pablo Res 3-16 whopper trout

Hey guys, been lurking on this site forever, hopefully I didn't set the record!!  My name is Kevin and I'd like to say thanks to everyone for the great reports and ideas found on the site.  Been kayak fishing for about 2 years now and I have used alot of your advice to get on the right track. 

That being said, I hit S.P. for some trout trolling this morning.  Launched at the ramps about 8:30, crossed to the east shore and trolled towards the dam.  Couldn't ask for better weather, but the fishing was SLOW.  Saw many boats anchored and beached doing the power bait thing, none looking too successful.  A couple hours and a few miles later I was making a large sweeping turn at the dam when my top lined rig's drag started screaming.  I carefully played it in and barely managed to net the 5.9 pounder.  It was sweet, got pretty amped up when it surfaced.  Hooked the second one at the mouth of the canyon on the way back.  Both were caught top lined with a kastmaster in deep water.   

Nice trout, good report. Congratulations.   

 Way to bring it tarpon rider! No better way to announce your presence than with a behometh.

I've had some luck up there myself before I had a kayak, not anything that nice but I knew they were there.
nice looking trout.  I've often wondered why with so many of us in the east-bay there is not more of us fishing this reservoir ?

Xsquid I think I saw you out there on Sunday you had just caught and realist a small trout when I went by you. You probably did not notice I was in a PB this time. Way to go and wellcome  .

Thanks guys.  Good eye Fishunter, I'm in Brentwood.  Try to get in as much fishing as I can during the weekends, commuting to the south bay takes up most of my weekday time and energy.     Pat, hope I gave you a wave at least.  I think I remember releasing a small one with some other boats in the vicinity.  I recently added a downrigger and was trying to master the art of netting fish while not fouling the second pole and getting my downrigger lead caught on the bottom!  It is doesn't follow the Keep It Simple Stupid philosophy, but I like having the ability to get hooks down.  Here is a pic of sunday's catch, all from a downrigged repala @ five feet.  (the one enjoying the modelo came to four pounds)  The second pic is of the downrigger.  Basically I put it on a scotty tripple rod holder.  Clutters the deck, but thats not hard to do on a tarpon 120! 
p.s.  Thanks to all who came up with the braid idea vs. the stock wire for the rigger.  Works like a champ and much safer as well.

Welcome and San Pablo is definetly a pond that does not get as much attention as the other locations.  Nice fish on the troll.  I've been looking at setting up a downrigger but ended up using leadcore.  Just trying to keep it simple but downriggers are the way to go.

Xsquid it was you I did notice you fusing with a downrigger we hooked-up in the same spot as you did. I took my brothers out for a light troll (non yakers) we caught most of ares at 8 feet.
