Ive seen this mentioned a few times and done searches, finding some things on Youtube and talk about it here on NCKA. Show me some of what you guys are using/doing. Im looking for that little extra insurance to not lose as many hook-ups.

What are you doing? For that matter, what's a trap rig?

A stinger hook?

An Oldsmobile with a big sound system playing trap music?

Do you mean C-rap music? :smt044 :smt006

It's basically a 2 hook rig w/the bottom hook being a treble. That is about it. Vary the distance of the hooks based on the bait you are using. The treble is for the short bites. Drift the bait just off the bottom along some structure. At least that is what I think it is....I don't use trebles.

Toady that's what I'm talking about, just like to see some examples or a narrative. The ones on Youtube usually have the upper single hook tied as a snell as well.

I use 6# mono to snell the front hook on the leader ( which usually is 30#  floro). I use trap rigs when trolling for halibut.

I use a rig like that for live bait fishing for long cod.

I've been haywire twisting a treble onto the eye of a 1/0 kahle hook, the treble is size 4-6, mostly 6.  I am using 30lb afw in camo.  Available at amazon.com.......the length of the wirehook is anywhere from 4-8" from the main hook depending on the bait size.

You got a picture of this? Sounds like a solid setup.

You asked for it.  It's 8.5" from the hook to the treble, big smelt set up.:smt006

I do not have a pic of my rig I use, but I use 2 single hooks, 1/0, top one snelled and a slider, the rear one snelled. I put the hooks opposing each other, nose hook pointing up, tail hook at down to hook through ass or just before tail.
Works really well for any bait from squid to frozen anchovies to live bait. Top hook has to be snelled well or will loosely slide down and turn your bait into a "U" which no es bueno. I do this set up for stripers a lot soaking bait, the two hook rig lets you get a bigger bait out there, and I get a better hookup ratio.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

I like the adjustable idea so I need to practice tying that top knot way tighter because I've had slippage and gave up on that setup.  I like it though so off to practice I go..... :smt006

Trap rig I use is for trolling popsicle chovies. You can slide the snelled hook to adjust for the size of the bait. I'll try and post a pic later today.

i lost a big fish with this setup and stopped using it.  the fish hooked onto the front hook, slid all the way down, and busted off the trailing hook when I set the hook.  Go with a fixed setup.

That's an affirmative!  I guess what I been using works. :smt006
