Most of the commercially produced safety flags are low and small.  They aren't much more visible than wearing a bright hat.  I made a large 7 foot tall safety flag with a USGS compliant white light for very little money out of a stiff Walmart fishing pole.

If you're gonna fly one, this is pro.  Nice work, pmmpete.

Thank you for that reminder AlexB. I saw that post on Coastside as well and definitely am guilty for not having a flag on my kayak, I  don't want to be one of those that gets run over by a PB from not taking all safety measures. It's crazy how close some of these PBers have gotten to me, recently at Ocean Cove. Don't know if they saw me or were just being jerks. Is there a certain channel that PB use, besides 69? I'm thinking along with a flag I could radio my location so they know the area I will be in. Just a thought.

Chiming in that kayaks don't show on my 4g radar
I tried a range of power settings during the Santa Cruz tourny when there were multiple kayaks in close proximity.

Besides being visible is get out of harbor channels and boat lanes.

We should be talking to Standard Horizon about getting a handheld Ais radio. AIS let's me see you on my multifunction display even when radar can't.

usually the only time i roll with a flag is when i salmon fish and troll with the PBs.  i also wear my hunter orange cap/beanie.  never had a problem.  i always wave and ask if any fish onboard and exchange intel.

If the pole of a bike flag is too flimsy, it'll swing and flop around as your kayak rocks on waves and drive you crazy.

Maybe this guy's on to something with his tinfoil hat....

It would keep out the Cygnian Thought Rays attempting to probe his mind to find his secret fishing spots, so I applaud this good piece of dual-function attire.

Get an old fiberglass CB antenna, if your needing a pile my home stitched safety flag has 50lb test an snap swivels stitched in so it goes on the eyelets of my extra 8ft pole.
