Aloha NCKA,

Me and some friends (mostly from Oahu) will be competing in MAPA's (http://mendoparks.org/annual-abalone-cook-off/) abalone cookoff for the second year in a row.
Last year we took second place, and are looking to bring the A game to the event again this year.

I had a few dive friends that backed out last minute due to work, and would be stoked if a few NCKA divers wanted to join up with the team.

We will be diving Friday October 7th, staying the night up there, and then cooking at the contest on the 8th.

Fair warning, we are in this to win, and have fun doing it. Let me know if anyone has interest in joining our team, and I can send you more info.

Aloha,

Isao

Right on, HapaIK!
I've always known our members would be contenders at this event and I thought the winners, too. We have such great cooks!

Good luck, we will be rooting for you!

Are you primarily looking for divers to donate abs?

IMO, your Ceviche recipe would be a great entry, Antonio!

Antinio, ab donation is primary, but ideally it's someone who I like hanging out with, that wants to chill with a good group of people.

Contest heavily favors local participants.  We got 4th place, and we're told by one of the judges that some at the judging table were of the mindset that "no way in hell out of towners are taking the win"

It was fun though, we had great diving conditions, good weather,  and got to cook great food with good friends. I think it's probably the last time we go up for the contest,  but we'll see how we feel next year.
