Being completely new to kayak fishing, I just read about boat-based angling closure during Jan-Mar ... for most species.
So, what do you guys do during those 3-3.5 months?
Do you all turn into shore-based anglers?
Diving sounds cool... but water during those months must be extremely cold.

Or do you just pack it up and count down days?

Or go out on non-groundfish trips?

Just curious.

One of these or combo:

1. Spend time with family
2. Prepare gears for the opening day
3. Exercise so I can paddle/pedal faster on opening day
4. Cry and ball up in the corner praying for opening day to come sooner
5. Go down south and fish.
6. Cry some more cuz opening day is too far away
7. Tell wife how much I love her, good karma so I can go on opening day!  I do love her though, she is so cool.

Shoot em up!

Water's fine with a 7mm wetsuit, and in between storms the wintertime viz can be really nice.

I'm guessing I might have to get into spearfishing to pass time.
But my biggest fear after getting into spearfishing is... not wanting to go back to holding a rod.

Sturgeon mostly. Some crabbing and I'd like to try more lake fishing.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.
