This is the NOAA point and click forecast for the area near the Duxbury buoy (1DR).

I wouldn't even hesitate to go out there on Friday.

Get some!!!

I'm not sure how strong of a paddler you are, so I can't really say? If you aren't up for a day of trolling in choppy conditions, you could always mooch. The usual NW wind will take you more or less from Dux to Rocky Point, which is a prime stretch of water for salmon. There have definitely been some fish caught in close to shore in ~30 feet of water, and it's more sheltered there.

With a weather forecast like that, you still might get an hour or two of nice glassy conditions before the wind picks up. Or it might be blown out when you get there. You just don't know unless you go.

Thanks for the support, I'm not strong yet but I have, out of necessity, battled home in some tough wind, I like that it can still happen in closer water.   I will do my homework.  Mooching it is....want to learn how to troll well though, thanks again :smt006

Dux to Rocky Point seems like Brighton st. launch to Rocky point, or go west to buoy then to rocky.  seems like a 4 mile one way.  I've done that round trip, so I may not be that strong of a paddler yet.  My little adventures at Tomales are only 2 miles round trip with a mile of correcting and re drifting.  Hmmmmm, better get strength and technique improvement for big boy stuff.

itll be a last min. decision for me,  i know i said i was down to do it, but if wind is up especially in water i never paddled before, i may pass. but who knows conditions might imrove.

my kayak doesnt do well in high winds, especially if its hitting from the side.  i dont have a rudder.

either way, there are plenty of alternatives

If you don't feel like covering too many miles, just concentrate on the area circled below. That area just N of Dux buoy can be very productive.

That's all pretty exposed territory If you get pushed below Stinson that trajectory from dr1 into rocky pt and down to Muir can get pretty wild Wouldn't want to do it sans rudder

It's a place you need to know your options

That's not a bad forecast but they're notorious for getting it wrong there My kayaks are pretty seaworthy and both have a rudder and I still find the place challenging even though I've been through it a gazillion times

Don't mean to be the naysayer, most likely you'll be fine

Just know where you are and keep one eyeball on the conditions

Good advice. Only you know your limits.
