What's up, guys?

Quick question for those of you with the newer (2013+?) version of the NRS Chinook PFD...

Does this loop work well for attaching your VHF radio? I like to keep it out and accessible (not in a pocket).

Of course I'll need to try it out myself, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Cheers,

Alex

when i use my chinook, i like to use the velcro strap by shoulder to hold the radio so i can hear it better.

don't see why the loop wouldn't work though.

Cool. I was looking at that Velcro strap, too, but it seems like it might interfere with my safety knife, which will be attached to the plastic mounting spot.

My only concern with the lower loop is it might be too low...

Guess I just need to bring my radio with me to CCK and try some out.

I clip my radio on the lower loop most of the time, it gets in the way of reeling sometimes. And i could imagine it getting in the way while trying to perform self rescue.

The higher velcro position is great, but i find it to become undone quite easily.

Would love to see what you guys do and where you guys mount your vhf.

Thanks, Keith. I'm working in West Oakland today, so maybe I'll swing by CCK if I get off before they close.

I recently purchased that PDF and the loop is perfect.  Antenna is well below your chin!

My Chinook vest is a year or so old.  I attach my throw-away cell phone to that loop, it isn't a very big lump.
I attach my radio and knife higher up per the pics attached - keeping them out of the way of my rods and for ease in reentry.  I had to get out my sewing awl and used some velcro to make a pouch for the bottom of the radio - the antenna  is held by some small pieces of velcro that I can zip off if I want to use the radio, though I can use it when attached as well, just can't see the screen very well when attached.
The knife can be removed with one hand.

That Velcro shoulder strap is a rod keeper for when one is working on the leader — a big help at keeping it close but out of the way. It's an essential fly fishing feature. It should be matched by a loop or D-ring at the right hem line for the rod butt.
