Re: baby sitting in the kayak.  Mama was out of town on business, the nanny was taking a nap :)

I'll post it when I get the camera back.

What? Are you afraid they're contagious ? :)

My back has been really bad lately, so I've not yet installed the downrigger on the new boat. It's close though. All I need to do now is tap the accessory bar, install, and give it a test drive or two.

Scott

Nice shot of the kid  My wife saw it though and the shot of Max which she hadn't yet seen and was all over my case

Prospects for a trip soon maybe down to Pinos

Be interested to see how your setup looks, I still need to figure out where to stick a second rodholder

Take care of the back

I don't get it. How do you attach the downrigger to the baby? That little guy is going to get tired hauling in 100 feet of line with a weight on the end.

On a more serious note, has anybody tried using the sawed off fishing rod method for a downrigger? I have an extra ram mount on one side. Seems like attaching the butt end of a rod and an old reel to it would work fine.

The idea is that I take care of the downrigger and rod, and that the little one provides the propulsion. Maybe when he hits his first birthday ;)

I categorically refuse to read this thread anymore. period!

just when you think you are free of babies. they appear again!

I'm going to invent a gratuitous baby filter! and sell it to google!

but where will I park my other jet?  :smt017 :angry2: :angry3: :cwm21: :evil3: :happy4: :happy6: :laughing3: :laughing5:  :smt120 :smt115

you guys need a roller tip on your half-a-rod. otherwise your spectra cable is going to wear out.

Hey Guys,

OK, here's what I'm going to do.  Shakespeare Tidewater 6'6" rod (roller stripper and roller tip... $40) coupled with an Okuma Convector (needed a left-hand reel that was fairly cheap... the Saltiga wasn't going to cut it!).  If the full rod length proves to be too long, I'll cut it down until it does the job and then add an Aftco Roller Tip to the cut end.  I have a Ram Mount on the left side of my "center console" (on the Tarpon 160) for the "downrigger", and I'll be adding another Ram Mount to the right side of the console for my fishing rod (I think I'm going to use a 10'6" Convergence for this).  I believe the drag system on the Convector will be good enough to control the descent of 2-3 lbs. of weight... light drag on the fishing rod reel for easy deployment.  The trickiest part will be clipping the fishing rod line into the release... and that should be fairly straightforward.  I'll be getting on the water this weekend to work everything out.  Pictures to follow...

I was talking to one of the guys at the Pro Shop about my plans and he voiced a concern about salmon being unable to pop the line off the release if we're only using 2-3 lbs.  Do you guys have any experience with this?

Hey Paul - Maybe you could use the "but look what the other kids are doing" line with the jeffa?

Regarding downriggers, I picked up the appropriate tap today, and will probably have the A-Bar© installed tonight. I'm also using the 4 lb "fish" ball, and manual testing shows that a relatively light, yet quick, tug will release the line. The proof is in the pudding though.

I had thought that I'd be fishing on the 14th or 15th, but the conditions look nasty, and the yard needs a lot of work. I'll just be eating vitamin A(dvil) like candy, knock out a good chunk of what needs to be done, and then hopefully get some water time in soon.

What kind of rod holder will you use that could attach to a ram mount?
