Heading to Tomales Bay for my first time to hunt some butts. Going to launch at Nicks Cove. If anyone else going to be out there I'll be in a Tan Hobie Revo. Company welcome!

Also, does anyone know where the closest bait store is there?

Picked up a small one yesterday.  The wind kicked our butt by 12:30.  Very beautiful throughout the am.  I hope today is your day. :smt006

A littl late, bur if you can sabiki up some perch or smelt, live bait is also kinda effective, I put a little shrimp on the hooks tips size 12 on the sabiki

Check Petaluma Dive Shop hours.  Last few times through there the place had new hours and wasn't open early.

Thanks guys! So here's my report, wide open bite on....skunks! 😭😂

It wasn't a bad day though. Got to fish with some Lose Screws, I think I lost a few myself lol, caught some mackerel and jack smelt, and oh a Bat Ray! Similiar color but wrong fish! I was all excited when I felt this thing take my bait, I yelled "fish on"! Thinkin oh ya this is gonna be a big butt! Took me for a little sleigh ride, and then as it surfaced I heard the sorrowful trombone, womp womp Womp!

I was on the water by 8am and aside from a little wind in the beginning it calmed down to nearly flat lake calm. I saw big fog Rollin in and wind started to kick up bout 1pm. For my first time out there, I had fun. Easy launch, and peddle out. I think my setup was off for halibut because I was using a swimbait, shrimp fly and squid when it looked like some folks were using a three way swivel rig, so next time I'll put together a few setups!

There is always next time. Don't worry I am 0-4 on my butt hunting adventures this year. Don't give up. It sure is fun just being out there enjoying such a nice place.

Today was a good day for fishing , just when the tide starts rolling in so does the fog... I'll be back in the area soon enough.

Hey rays are fun! Yeah for butts try a regular live bait rig, the three way swivel with the dropper then ur leader to the ur live bait. Some hali vets can chime in and  give u better advice than me.

Nice try Steph.  :smt001

I've tried the three way swivel but prefer the carolina rig with a plastic slider. Especially for eel grass city aka Tomales.

Carolina rig works great. 2-4oz egg weight above a bead. 3-4 ft 25lb leader to a snelled 3/0 hook followed by a stinger hook. Drifted just above the bottom.
