Hello!  I'm new to kayak fishing and am always looking for new places to try.  This sounds like an intriguing place.  Where did you launch from?  Was it the Broaderick Boat Ramp/. Thanks!!!

Hey, the lunch is off of Jefferson Blvd in W. Sac. I believe it's officially called the "Barge Canal Access".

The cross streets are Jefferson and South River Rd.

I did the only thing i could think of to show my displeasure. Gooped the hell out of my fluke and shot it hook Buried(so as to avoid damage) And planted that 4.5 inch floppy, sloppy, stinky sucker right on the back of the front guys neck! Perfect shot!
Now that's funny.  I would have loved to see that.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Thanks ljparton!  Hubby and I are thinking of maybe checking this place out.  Do you know how far it is to walk your kayak down to the water?  Anybody else know what type of fish are in this area other than stripers?  I always had thought that stripers didn't start running till September/October.

From the parking lot to the water is about 30 yards or so depending on where you park.  If you have a heavy kayak bring a cart, if your kayak is light you can probably just iron man it down.  The predominant species in the canal are stripers and black bass.  There are also catfish, salmon, and crappie.  The good news is that it's an easy launch and its free.

Thanks for your reply sacyakattack!!!   One more question.  Is it safe to park your vehicles in the Barge Canal Recreational Access (2100 Jefferson Boulevard, West Sac).

It's one of those places where I wouldn't mind leaving my car there in the early morning hours or throughout the day, but I wouldn't leave my car there at night.  I'd say it's probably no more or less risky than anywhere else, but there's a lot of weirdos around there.  I've seen people car hunting for turkeys with a crossbow, people riding bikes with bows and arrows and occasionally you'll find people living under the bridges.

I was there last night until around 9ish there were a few cars in the lot. Lately I've noticed a police vehicle parked near the entrance watching traffic on Jefferson. Like they said above don't leave anything visible and it should be fine. I have fished the port at all hours and never had any issues *knocks on wood*.

I was there til after dark on Monday and got 6 lmb.  No striper love sadly.  Tons, and I mean tons of bait fish jumping all over.  Small guys about 2 inches long.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Last Thursday I took home a 27" striper and yesterday a fatty 25". Both were caught during the tide shift in 16fow. Water temps are still very high 78-83 at the surface.

It is about as good of a place to park as you can ask for. Crappie, bluegill, redear, lmb, striper, salmon, shad, catfish, I have heard sturgeon, and occasional humpback whale. Russians catch some big carp there too.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

That's right. A number of years ago, a mom and calf Humpback Whale pair showed up and stayed for quite a while. I think the news casters called them "Delta" and Dawn." I know the West Sac PD officers on overtime for crowd control called them "Time" and "A Half."
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.

Thanks everybody for your responses.  I'm thinking that hubby and I will have to check this out on Saturday.  If our plans don't change, and anybody is out there, we'll be out there on a pair of WS Tarpon 100s.  Please say "hi"!

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
