The fishing was decent at the Mile Buoy for Halibut and a few Sea Bass.

I wouldn't give too much thought into WSB showing up in SC. There are always WSB roaming around capitola and SC. They tend to be resident fish and will come out when small pockets of squid pop up. (Around the full moon time) However, bayside will try and sell their "Fresh Dead Squid" for a big mark up. Same squid can be bought a lot cheaper at asian supermarkets or in Monterey shops. Alshobie caught his WSB on a pink smelly old piece of squid. (When they are biting i don't think it matters much the freshness)

IF the WSB really do pop up (in numbers), this forum will light up, until then, you're more likely to catch a GWS at santa cruz right now then a WSB. Good luck.

This... ^^^^ but yes they're more prevalent during the blooms and yes they have been going on... I had a couple runs that definitely seemed like WSB (tons of line pulled in a matter of seconds, missed the hook set) last weekend and I know of two caught that I personally saw one boater one Yakker..

Good luck and if you'd like to go for em, feel free to contact me, just be prepared for maybe getting skunked.. I usually shoot to find the blooms and then flyline live or dead squid or even Macks...

From the radio chatter, at least one was caught today.

So it sounds like a few are being caught.  What part of Bayside's report is wrong?

I need a hobie shark warranty.   :smt001
I was down a few weeks ago at big sur and saw 4-5 squid boats working that area. Hopefully the squid pop up in numbers like they did a few years ago but the commercial fleet was working south.

Im saying its just good to collaborate intel from a few places so people can maximize their chances to catch this fish and there are other options for bait that is equally effective and cheaper. Just be informed. To every man their own. Good luck to those who go.

Overheard some passerby local fisherman say he wasn't able to get any squid from the places because they were buying it all up & not selling.  True or not ... not sure?  I'd bring some to be sure.
