Three fun trips to the Cove with guests over the past four days - at least two of which found me through NCKA.

Thursday the 7th I had Jon on one of my X-Factors for an 8 hour session where we targeted salmon but settled for rockfish and lingcod.  Beautiful water and lively conversation made the day a blast, and Jon's ready to get further into the sport.

Friday the 8th Phillip joined me all the way from Chandler, AZ!  He planned out a 10 day trip to the Cove hoping to get on some salmon and also looking to enjoy the rockfishing and a vacation with his family.  The salmon still weren't cooperating, but we had a strong bite to enjoy otherwise, and Phillip's still there getting on the early morning ocean whenever he can.

Sunday the 10th I met Gary from Clovis who'd jammed up Saturday evening and almost got blown away that night in camp!  He was glad to see the wind calm down long enough for us to get a good tour in Sunday morning where he scored his first lingcod (and his 2nd) from the kayak.  We did manage to get blown off the water by just before noon, and that's the kind of season it's been so far - lots of wind!

Keeping the reports short and sweet, and please do enjoy the photos.  Just want to add that I'm really stoked whenever I get a call from an NCKA member enquiring about a trip.  I am open to outfitting people and will accommodate all skill and experience levels, but the quality of adventure we can go on is directly correlated to the resume' that my guest brings along.  Taking members of this club on my trips represents my very best opportunities, as I am able to count on a level of safety and gear knowledge that makes the trip way more than an intro to offshore fishing from the yak.  My ideal trip is a hardcore adventure, and NCKA members are way more likely to be ready for 100% of what I'm looking to get us on.

Bravo, community, for keeping our game on a high enough level that people coming in to this club - if they're paying attention at all - understand and commit themselves to having standards and being competent.

Please consider an adventure you may want to go on in Humboldt County - I'm looking forward to the next call.  :smt001

It's not just about catching a rockfish or lingcod - or even a salmon.

It's about going on an adventure where you dive into this awesome sport that incorporates exercise, challenge, discovery, interaction with Nature, and a positive flow of energy between participants.

It's an honor.  Thank you.
