Welcome to the madness!!!  :smt006
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Q: What kayak should I buy?
A: Demo multiple kayaks and take into account how you plan to load the kayak and its weight.

Archie, looking to see what rigs people have used successfully with a bigger dog. I'm relatively small 5'3" 130#s, but can bench my own weight so I'm not horribly worried about weight. The bigger factor if that I want to bring my 60# vizsla with me.  I'm guessing that most won't let me demo with my pup. If you know of a prior post having to do with dog friendly yak's feel free to send it my way.

Check with mantanska (sp?) Rob about a dog on the kayak.  I've seen him a couple miles off of Shelter Cove with his dog riding along.

Sorry for the thread jack earlier..........I'm good for that.

Boys will be boys.  :smt001

As far as yaks are concerned.....

Trident Prowler 15, 13 or 11 all are solid yaks and you should be able to pick up a used one off of CL, here or used boats from rental places.

I have a 15 and am able to take my boys ages 11 and 12 out OTW fishing and diving. So the additional 100 lbs is not an issue and there is plenty of space in the tank well for your dog.

I also have an 11 that I haven't taken out yet but the tank well is about the same size as the 15.

The tank well is also perfect for hauling crab pots, crates, game bags etc.

Make sure you get the rod pod so you have access throughout your hull. It's perfect storage for rods, dry bags etc.

Recommend that you take an ocean safety class at Monterey Bay Kayaks or another similar class somewhere. Mention NCKA and you get a 10 percent discount.

Safety, Safety, Safety first...........then fun, fun, fun  :smt001

Good luck lots of great people on here and great friends  :smt007
