Does anyone in here fly drones? Since I am no longer/gave up playing golf I have decided to invest the money from the clubs for the hobby of flying a drone. I've seen a lot of spectacular vids and photos from drones. Any one also flies please chime in. I'm eyeing on a phantom 3 at the moment. any recommendation would be appreciative.

I flew a few but these are low end low flying ones.i had the syma x5c1 and x8c.i bought these because I didn't want to spend alot of money if I didn't like em.my buddy has them now so when I go to his house I still fly them.i don't think you can go wrong with the phantoms but I never looked in on them because of the price. Another one is the cheerson cx20 lower end flyer but has good reviews.otherwise you can you tube it . quadcopter 101
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

i was actually looking at getting a drone. Phantom 3 advance was in my sight but after seeing the new feature on the phantom 4, I might have to save a few pennies. I'm still on the fence since once crash there goes the money, haha.

I do. Used to fly a lot more than I currently do, planes, helis and multirotors. My current rig is actually for sale.

The Phantom series is definitely an easy way to get into the hobby, and depending on what you want to do with it, it may be all you ever need. DJI had issues for a long time with fly aways randomly, up to and including the inspire. That and the cost of replacement parts is way to high in my opinion when  you crash it.

I always try to steer people to an rc club, or multi rotor forum, as with fishing, or any other hobby, building your own will give you more intimate knowledge, but if it gets you into the hobby I'm about the ready to fly stuff!

I'm not sure where you're located, but when I fly, I fly with a group at Pena adobe, if you're in the area I'm happy to go out there with you and introduce you, talk tech stuff.

If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to answer them, I'm all for more people in the rc hobby! It really is fun and as challenging as you want it to be!

Very nice! I'm sure you'll love it. Just be careful where and who you fly around, not very many people like the idea of them, and even more hate it when they hear the word drone  :smt044 State parks etc are no fly zones, would hate to see you get arrested over it!

I've taken mine on a couple of fishing trips, and while it's a little sketchy sitting in the kayak with my goggles on, the view is pretty damn cool!

1) Spend the $50 or less for a Hubsan X4 or similar mini-quad and a few replacement props.

2) Fly the cheapy drone for a few hours before you fly the Phantom. You'll crash it a bunch. But they're pretty sturdy, and can generally be put back to running shape in minutes with some crazy glue and/or a prop change.

3) READ ALL THE MANUAL on the Phantom. See if there is a forum devoted to your model Phantom on rcgroups.com. If so, then spend a bunch of time reading there to find out the common issues and mistakes.

After all the above, then go fly the Phantom. In a big open space. Well away from people, trees, powerlines. It will be Sooooo much easier than the mini-quad, you won't believe it. But BE CAREFUL.  Imagine a flying blender with four 10" long blades. That's your quad.

I just checked my youtube and I don't have any fishing or slough videos. I fly FPV (first person view, from the view of the quad). I later put a gimbal on, and started filming like the video you posted, but apparently all of those videos are on my hard drive.

In the mean time, here's an FPV video. I have goggles on showing me exactly what the camera is seeing while I'm flying. It is a lot of fun flying through trees and obstacles. Apparently I got lazy and didn't edit this video, so just skip around, there's some cool stuff in there, and some boring stuff. But maybe it'll get you a little more stoked on your quad!

Just saw the new future release of the DJI Magic vs the new GoPro Karma drone.  The DJI looks sweet!  So tempting...

These companies are really stepping up their game as far as designed is concerned.  Let's see if their guidance software is following suit with quality.

Enjoy the phantom. Pretty resilient. Crashed mine a few times and never had more than a broken blade.

My BASE jumping mentor just took 1st place in DJIs international SAR software development challenge. 100k check.
