Stick with the appliances. A new vacuum cleaner or dishwasher or anything you see on an infomercial  :smt002
Or you could get her a pair of earrings with her birthstone

Let me put in my .02.... I get a Mush Mush card, Chocolate, Cook dinner for her, Spend a the day FOCUSED on her. (massage, foot rub) Oh, also some Blind cash (that does not come out of the bank) Fish money, Mad money just for her. To spend any way she wants. Any time she wants. The card is Key! The time you give just to her is the gift. (do dishes, laundry, send her out to lunch while you watch kids) is what she'll appreciate! The cash, well the next time you mess up. She can spend it and not be so mad (well maybe) :smt044  Summery, it's not the gift, it's the making her FEEL like you care about HER! Go for it! Tell her Happy birthday from the other scruffy fishermen you know too! :smt002
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

So I think I have it now guys. I'm doing a little video of of our two boys making a bithday card for her and then singing happy birthday. I'm going to get ahold of her friends she never gets a chance to see and get them all to go out for the day together. Then once we get to Idaho there is a floating restaurant on Lake Pend Oreille that I think might be nice. When I lived there it wasn't really my thing as I'd rather paddle to the other side of the lake and go camping and eat the fish I catch for dinner. It always goes back to fishing it seems, lol. She did just text me and says she wants to go to bps after school today. That's the sign of s good wife! Thanks for all the suggestions guys and I will be sure to say happy birthday from all the scruffy fisherman I know too!

Well after all that thinking and trying to decide what to get the wife she ended up picking out some things at Bass Pro for herself. She got a nice new rod, a very nice reel to go with it, some nice fishing glasses, and a huge assortment of pink plastic lures. I definitely married the right one and I have made her into a pretty serious fishing woman. She still needs that fishfinder though, lol.

My wife likes her visits to Starbucks.  She doesn't go fiendishly everyday, but when she gets out, she enjoys it.  I got her a $100 Starbucks card for that enjoyment.

You could aalways get her a bowling ball with your name engraved on it.

I have found that getting things of "mutual interest" for my wife's b-day does not go over nearly as well as getting her those things which she solely shows interest. For my wife it's pretty easy, since she has a number of hobbies which are not fishing.

I like Ron's advice. Spend the day focused on what SHE wants to do, use money that isn't out of a joint account, try to make the day about pleasing her!

She already picked out the fishing rod and reel and glasses and a few lures. So now I am just going to have the kids make her birthday cards and make a video of them saying why she is the best mommy ever and singing happy birthday to her. She should like that I think. Then I will skip the spa and give her a nice massage myself. Hopefully it will lead to more on the birthday night, haha. I think I will still take her to the floating restaurant in Idaho cuz she is kind of into those more yuppy things. Plus it is a beautiful view being on the lake and seeing the sun setting over the islands and the mountains.

You guys are lucky getting off with just a birthday.  My wife has a birthmonth!  Used to just be a week, but a couple years ago she 'upgraded' to the whole month.

Starts out at the beginning of the month with a conversation like, "what do you want to do this weekend honey?"  She comes back with, ' well, my birthday is coming up, so how about a B&B?  And so it goes until her actual birth DAY (February 23rd BTW)

So the whole month I gotta do what ever she wants since, "My birthday is coming up, so I thought maybe we could...."

I did get lucky a few years ago and sent her to Idaho to visit her folks for the month.  Ha!

That would be my wife mom. She expects me to take her out and get her whatever she wants on my own birthday. I told her that is not how it works here in this country... Especially since I can't even stand her, lol. I did manage a couple things at bps on her birthday trip last night. I got a hundred feet of leaded crab pot line and a pair of shorts. What part of Idaho did your wife go to?

Her parents, sister and sister's family moved to Boise a few years back.  I once wanted to retire in Idaho but I'm so grateful they aren't around here anymore, I really don't mind they ruined it for me.  (Which is why wife went and NOT me.)

I have no idea how DW turned out as nice as she is with the family she came from, but I'm happy with birthmonth, all things considered.  I got her a kayak on her last birthmonth; a Old Town Predator 13.  She's quite pleased with it!

I'm from North Idaho originally... Just north of Sandpoint. Other than that that story sounds a lot like mine. I don't know how my wife ended up being so awesome when her mom is as close to pure evil as I think anyone could possibly be and the rest of her family is just a bunch of a**holes. I got a kayak last year, a tarpon 100 and she got a tamarack angler 10. We both want to upgrade to a hobie but the price is kind of holding us back right now.
