So got the harbor shortly after 5:30. Nowhereman was already ready to go...

Launched from Dock F shortly after 6AM, headed toward the yellow buoy on the East side and slowly made my way to the mile buoy. Caught a couple of lings (released one that was barely above 22") and several RF's (kept the one on the pictures that are about to hit the BBQ).

Headed back a bit before 10AM as my back was killing me (back home before noon)

I heard on the radio that  a 8' landlord might have been spotted but I will let the right person tell the story :-)

Overall a good day even if my back was not cooperating.

Nice morning on the water.  Had to paddle in at 10 to head to San Jose at 11.  Was bummed because the fish were biting.  There was a lot of bait getting chased around, and lots of sea lions out as well.  Wind was on and off, but mostly off.

Farenheit spotted a juvenile landlord close to the mi. buoy pretty early on.  I ended up seeing it a little later, about 9:30.  Was thinking about life when I saw a commotion on top of the water about 75yrds away.  Not sure if the GW hit the seal or if it was just a chase.  The seal took off in one direction and the shark ended up going the other.  Pretty impressive site seeing all that water fly around.

Had a tail ripped off just short of the stinger :smt010, so I guess the halibut are biting.  Hope everyone else got some good bites, ready to hear about them!  Took home 2 rock fish, so I am happy :smt003

Launched at around 7. With dave, charles, sebastian, at the aldo parking lot dock a.  Bounced frozen herring for a while and made my way to the mile bouy.  Saw a floating dead seal/sea lion, it was huge and it stank.  Knew something was fishy.  Didnt stick around for long.  Fished the reefs around the red bouy for the rest of the day.  Took home 9 rf.  Including a 16+inch verm.  I didnt know there were verms in sc.  The verm was a showstopper, tried so hard for a 10th fish but no luck.  Fished very hard today. Conditions were great, swells were correctly forcasted, wind was almost non existant.  Off water by 130

Highlights:
-big verm
-first take home greenling. Very good tasting.
-dolphin sightings, they even swam under my kayak.
-found fish in sc, despite contrary beliefs.
-found honey hole where i fished it harder than i ever had
-landlord

Landlord: fishing near the mile bouy, heard a skiff not 20 yds from my layak hollar about a gws. Looked over saw a fin swim right at the skiff. Almost shit my wetsuit. Then gave it some thought. Fin was small, no more than 18" wide. Asked the skiff guys, they saw it and said it was around 7-8foot long.  Told everyone on the radio, asked for advice. Thought some more and decided to keep fishing.  Seals were still out to play so i stayed. Reeled up my herring that was partially hanging in the water. Sigting again whule next to charles, he summed it up pretty good.  Talked to a boat about it and joked about "yum yum yellow"  i think i know that story.

I thought the same thing when I saw the dorsal fin of the gws tailing me. Until I got a good look of its 15+ft body lol it was more the girth that got to me. They're stealth as shit.

I was glad I had my shark shield with me. Though maybe that's the reason that I did not have any bite even though I w as pretty close to Bob (but w/o fishfinder).

Was trolling for halibut mist of the time, with no luck. And then hooked nice ling and decided to learn how to gaff. Which came at the cost of a nice ling.

P.S. I thought when GWS comes fur bags and dolphins go. Was not the case today.

I was trolling for halibut without luck, but did get 3 keeper-sized lings, all released (the last one was pretty decent sized).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7kY3Ohxw_8&feature=youtu.be

I also missed 5 or 6 solid take-downs, including one that neatly sliced a big mackerel in half. Spanish mackerel were everywhere, and I had a whale come close by (a little too close for comfort). I  heard the chatter about the shark, but that was a ways away from where I was, although I did see a stinking sea lion corpse...

According to this article

"They are almost exclusively fish-eaters until they are 7, 8, 9 feet long".

Park in the lot where the F dock is, launch is super easy, has a hose to wash your gear off too, depending on how far you want to paddle, you can go a mile or less my trips are usually an average of 10-15 miles a day but that's me  :smt003
