I've been trying to research the man in the grey suits relationship with Tomales for the last couple of years, and I haven't been able to find anything that says they're in there. I, however, believe that at least the juveniles come in, like you said. With the number of whites recorded right at the mouth of the bay last year, it's hard to believe they never enter the bay itself. Just curious as to whether or not anyone has actually spotted one in there?

Sorry to derail this, but that's been a question I've been trying to answer for a while.

Look for small tides. Top of the out going has always produced best for me! 20 ftw is my magic depth but shallower produces some big butts as well. I will be there Mon 20th first light unless it is windy as hell!!! :smt003 Its Hali Time :smt007

What time is first light to you? Like 5am, 6am? High tide is 745 ish at 3.2 ft with a low at 215 ish at .9 ft.

Anyone bringing crab traps? I'll probably bring one for a soak.
John, I will be there about 6:30 launch as soon as I get ready. Pretty quick with the Viking, just drop in the tackle pod and rods and go!!! CH 69 Bro!! :smt003

Sounds like a plan. I'm in. What time? Have you checked the tides and weather yet? I've had luck catching bait just dragging a sabiki behind me while I head to my spot. You can also throw a cast net, which I've used a little, but usually the sabiki is easier.
Hope to be on the water by 6:30.  Tides look Hali fishy perfect, like i said, I'm new to the spot for kayaking but have dropped pots there at marker 5.  I might cheat and pick up some shiners but we'll see.  You got a spot eh?  Hope I can keep up.

Man I got confused somewhere on here. I was talking the 13th, sloppywood was talking the 20th, but I thought he meant the 13th! I want to go this coming up Monday, the 13th. Get there around 6, make bait and soak a crab pot going into the top of the tide, then drift bait with the outgoing. Grey ram with an olive hobie and dorado colored Jackson.

You'll read mixed reviews on Tomales, both fishing and safety wise. It is a dangerous spot, and I can see why, so keep your head on a swivel and if the wind picks up you're smart to leave.

Excuse my ignorance but how is Tomales Bay a dangerous spot? Is it just a Wind Factor?

Wind, thick fog, strong tides, shallow areas. All can be a factor here.

Kind of a minor thought but, don't forget that it's also a nursery for the Landlord during certain times of the year.
Dang, you had to remind me about taxes and death

!! mph wind at tomales entrance predicted by !:00 pm, is wind less at hog than entrance or is it funneled stronger or same speed WNW direction? Got caught in about 13mph in Tiburon and it was a little gusty and active on the paddle time.  Had to lean towards the wind to stay balanced on the gusts.  Either way I've had some humbling wind practice and am cautiously prepared to navigate the dreaded and beautiful beast that is Tomales Bay, or is the beast under the surface........

Monday will be too windy there. The wind doesn't get blocked at all and if it's coming from the north it will rip down the bay and you'll end up in Inverness!

Hmmmm, 6:30am heading back by 11:45, not worth it?  Good sandwiches in Inverness?  Wind from 6am to 1pm is 2-9mph is doable?  Might pick up shiners and just fish vs. hunting for bait...........
