Folbe...

I'm just going to leave that right there and walk away slowly.

from a price standpoint, folbe doesn't seem to be even close.  viewing both videos, i think the stealth looks a little easier to use.  but can't really tell unless i could see/try them in store.

As a big rail guy who has lots of experience with rails, their rail mounted rod holders seem to be a good design on connecting with the rail using two point nuts and turn knobs. however, I'd be concerned about long handled rods hitting my legs while pedaling.

I purchased the extension and don't have any issues with my legs hitting with how it's setup. I wish I would've gotten a better picture, but I have a GT175 track mounted right next to the rudder control on the right hand side of the kayak, with the extension I have plenty of room for my legs while still keeping it within arms reach.

i think positioning would be most important for that setup.  since i'm in a SP13, my legs do more of a rotation than those on hobies so the higher extension would probably not help much, just like it doesnt help on the scotties.  I also like my rods closer to me since I have short stubby arms.  I do think that with the way they lock in that I don't have to put the rods butts all the way in, so that could help me with clearance. i purchased the extensions as well, but planning to try that more on the boat since i need a little clearance.  most of my rods don't have very thick hypalon grips, so i think these look like they'll be a good fit for me trolling.  I don't really use a rod holder when jigging anyways.

I would also shoot Jason an email and ask about the angled mount not yet on the website- he included one for me to try and while I haven't tried it much I think it might help in your situation in getting the rod away from your legs. I could see that definitely helping.

The Folbe definitely cost more initially, but it now lives on my kayak unlike the two Scotty rod holders that take up space in my basement.

Many people are happy with Scotty "bait caster" and "power lock" rod holders, but I am not one of those people. I find I can pull the rod out of a Folbe MUCH faster than I am from a Scotty.

This new Stealth holder looks like it functions VERY similar to a Scotty Powerlock, other than the fact that it uses some kind of rubber contraption as a "safety" instead of the rotating collar of the Powerlock. I never used the locking collar thing anyway (I actually removed it from my old Powerlock) so I guess I just don't see the point.

Hey guys,
This is Jason from Stealth. I was able to get access to join in! First of all, thanks for the great discussion and support!
Ill give you a little info about Stealth and then answer some of the questions that Ive seen.

On these forums, I see a lot of ingenuity born of frustration.  Kayak anglers are especially creative in inventing new ways to manage all of the things we need to rig and carry.  Im a product designer and one of my sources of frustration has been rod holders. Locking collars always seem to be in the way, but I've lost gear by not using them. If its not locking collars, its tricky moves to release the rod, or overbuilt complexity. also, things like single pivot rail mounts, and especially ball mounts never seem to be tight enough. So, I just started building product that I like to use. And, we have been fortunate in that a lot of other guys /gals seem to like it as well.   We have a stream of new mounts and products that you all will see launch over the next year. Much of it born from doing this! Talking about fishing with others who are passionate about it.

Are we compatible with Scotty and Cabelas bases?
The short answer is yes.  Because we are new, and a lot of people have these bases on their boats already, we thought it would be a smart move to not require people to drill new holes in their boats in order to give us a try. Also, Scotty makes a great deal of extensions and accessories that we don't yet offer. So, compatibility is out intent.   That being said, Scotty is a different company and sometimes we do encounter fit problems. If that happens, we correct it. No question.

Will our holder handle larger rods?

The inside of our holders is 1 3/8 wide.  We did this because there is a range of sizes that optimize the effectiveness of the CAM without risk of damaging handles.  I have seen some larger ocean rods that do not fit. We are working on a pro series version that is larger and should launch this fall.

Is the cam a contraption? Is it really necessary?

Although our rod holder looks a bit like a conventional holder, I think the CAM is really a game changer. It grips the handle. When engaged, you cant pull the rod out the front of the holder. It actually gets tighter when you try to pull the rod out the front.  But, when you pull upward ( set the hook) it comes out easily. You don't even have to touch the rod holder at all.  So, in the end, your gear is secure, and it releases when you want to start fighting a fish.  It also allows you to position your reel out in front of the holder in a lot of cases, which creates a lot more cockpit space.  Finally, it dampens vibration that the fish might otherwise feel if your rod is rattling around inside the holder.

Finally, all of our stuff is reinforced Nylon Composite. All the elastomer parts are EPDM, which is what engine gaskets are made of. It doesn't dry rot, get brittle in cold, or sticky in the heat.  Plus, these are guaranteed for life.   If you ever have an issue, we stand behind our gear. Ask anybody who has interacted with us about our service and it will be positive.

Plus, These are available in stores near you guys!  all 3 locations of Kayak City Adventure Sports carry our stuff. Ask for Brandon Watts.  Go and check them out if you have a chance.

Finally, if you guys have any other questions, either post them here of give me a shout. Thanks! -Jason
