I know it's just a dummy but does it really work? if it does, anyone that goes spearfishing, surfboarding or ocean water activities should wear it.

I can't say whether it works or not, but there is an alternative that is relatively well proven to work - SharkShield.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Actually my mom bought me two, one for my wrist and one for my ankle. I don't wear them, but if it gives you peace of mind, go for it. Personally, I figure if you are scared of sharks you should stay out of the water, and if you are depending on a gimmick to protect you you should stay out of the water.

If the developers wanted to make a video that I would believe, they should get rid of the dummies and stuff the chum in their own clothes and let a boat tow them though the water off the Farallons. When I see a charging great white break off the attack I'll be sold.

Interesting idea, but if you're considering buying one, you might want to look at this video:

Lol. You keep telling yourself that. Sharkshield completely failed their own static bait deterrent test.

From Shark Shield's own white paper: http://www.sharkshield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Shark_Shield_White_Paper_2014.pdf

Quote
A total of 116 trials using static bait were undertaken at the Neptune Islands, South Australia and 189 tows were conducted using a seal-decoy near Seal Island, South Africa. The proportion of baits taken during static bait trials was not affected by the deterrent. The deterrent increased the time it took to sharks to take the static bait, and the number of interactions per approach.

"Our study assessed the behavioural effects of the electric field produced by the Shark Shield Freedom7™. The study was performed in two locations and tested two distinct approach and behavioural situations to assess whether the response to the Shark Shield™ was consistent across behaviours. The electric field did not affect the proportion of static baits consumed, but significantly decreased the number of breaches, and surface interactions on a towed seal decoy."

Yeah that's a pretty silly, unscientific video with a dummy named Bernie for fans of stupid '80s comedies.
I agree. Get in the water, put your money where your mouth is and show us that this thing works.

$65 seems like a strategic price-point designed to bait (pun intended) anyone into buying it. Not too expensive. If it works, great, if not, it's only $65 down the drain. Most people will never see a shark anyway, and therefore it's nearly impossible to debunk these kinds of products.

Nonetheless, I'm intrigued.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I heard a new repellent called shartz you just eat at taco bell  every time before you go in the water. Works great but the sharks said it had a shitty aftertaste.
