China Camp Dino Hunt Saturday 2/24/07

Planning on a Dino hunt for Saturday... the more the merrier.

Launch at the main beach at China Camp.

Early launch around sunrise... 6:30 AM or so.  The tide will already be moving out slightly so expect a significant paddle to the honey hole.

Will plan to fish the entire outgo and possibly the beginning of the incoming tide if the outgoing tide doesn't produce. 

This is your last weekend to catch a legal sturgeon larger than 66 inches... maybe forever.

was already planning on this.  its gonna be a fun paddle into the outgoing tide Eric.  in other news, i just received reports of a herring spawn at san quentin.... jtf..

With that tide I'll probably be launching out of Buck's, though.

You know what Dustin... I think you have a point there.  I am altering my plans as well.    I will launch at Buck's too.

Easier to get out to the honey hole once the tide is already moving out, and should be a decent paddle back if you wait for the incoming tide to start moving in. 

If weather kicks up, should be able to find the channel again without too much detour since tide isn't going to go minus.  The only down side would be if it became necessary to paddle back into Buck's while the tide is on the outgo... marathon but we've all done it before.

I caught a 62lber just half a mile off china camp about a month ago, you don't neccesarially have to go all the way to the 'honey hole'.

I know, I know...  I've caught sturgeon all over that general area as well, but I just like the Shell Bank area for consistency.

I'm in.  I'll meet ya all out there though, still planning on the China Camp launch.

Would getting a 09:30 launch be a bust????.........Danglin

If the rain muds up the river I'm thinking of a 9:30 lanch at Black Point.

Okay guys where's Buck's?

Oooooooooooooooooooooo... Now you guys have me thinking... It's going to be a game time decision but, I'm most likely in. Never been to Buck's before... China and Bullhead yeah, but not bucks. I'm guessing it's down the road a bit more. Also, is it possible to launch earlier from there? I know that the gates don't open at China or Bullhead until 7... or is it 8??? I guess it doesn't matter too much...

Best to enter from the San Perdro Road side.  You will miss the small little sign coming in the other way.  The other road is San Perdro Point.  If you get away from the homes on the road.  It is like a little step hill and on the left is the little road.  If you hit China Camp.  You went to far. It is on the road to China Camp State Park. It is after Point Gallinas Rd and Upper Rd.  I think.  Nice little bar to drink after.  If it is open. 

Frank, nearest big city is San Rafael.  Farnk, also coming in there are poles to mark the channel.  Watch you depth finders real close.

Long paddle to get out to Eric's spot.   Atlease 3 miles.

It's 2.22 miles from Buck's to the spot I like to fish.  It's about 2 miles from China Camp.

I'm still waffling back and forth about where I will launch.  Buck's can launch any time.  China Camp you need to roll the yak down the hill before 8:00... cart needed.

It'll be fifteen to twenty by then with winds straight out of the south against the tide... not nice conditions.  Anyone considering Sunday as an option?
