Harbor Freight is selling their plastic ammo boxes for $4.99 right now. You could use one to house your battery and seal with duct seal where you drill for wire holes. I think I'm going this route myself. I just got the Garmin Striker 4 FF GPS combo unit for $120. Check it out as a possible candidate for portable unit. Haven't been able to use it yet, report to follow soon. Good luck!

The challenge I've been pondering is how to install a transducer in my sit-in kayak, limited by mount space due to the skirt ring and lack of railing.   Well, I think I found a solution requiring no drilling and it maintains the portability of my new Lowrance fish finder.  It's a magnetic transducer mount.  For those interested check this out http://www.fishfindermounts.com/#!product/prd1/2801834021/15mm-magnetic-transducer-mount-kit

Have yah got to try that garmin out? I'm looking at them vs lowrance hook 3.
I got 99 problems, and fishing solves them all!
