$700.00 bucks for no net is absurd but fine collections will parallel Ca. budget shortfalls. I have been converted. At least in the sense that a net will accompany me on rock fish missions. However, just as grandma's wall plaque advocating virtue is ignored so will the net. Handle has been chopped, hoop and netting fixed to back deck and out of the way. Gaff retains its premier starboard position ready for the right hand grab should need arise.

Like RippinLips mentioned, for those who don't use nets but want to avoid a potential ticket, there are several brands of collapsible fold-up nets on the market that you could easily stow in the hull and forget about until the warden rolls up.  I found this Frabill 18" collapsible net for about $21.

Go big or risk losing a lifetime catch.  My two cents.  :smt001

+1 Go with a big salmon net.

i might have to do this so in case i forget my net i can just bust one of those out of my kayak. I sometimes forget my net at home and i don't think it's worth it to drive back 2-3 hours to just go and get a net. The rules are set in place but it's kind of ridiculous to get a $700 ticket over this; $25 sounds better like a fix it ticket. Same goes with if you lose your license while you're on the water, do you just stop fishing and throw all the fish back in the water?

Just sayn..bring a net ...extreme fine or not ..then it's not a  problem ..forget a net and take a chance then it's on you ,extreme fine or not ..doubt this would be a thread if someone hadn't gotten popped .... :smt002. Now I'll go back to being superfluous  :smt002
