Hey all.  With Rock and Ling season opening tomorrow  :smt044 I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on where to drop a line in HMB for some Lings.  I'm familiar with Monterey Bay and up north in Mendo, but for no real reason, I'm pretty clueless about my own back yard and would like to change that this year.  I know giving away fishing locations is frowned upon, but even a general idea so I'm not hopelessly paddling in circles out there.

A launch location in reference to where to fish would be super helpful as well  :smt001

Thanks in advance and tight lines for all!

There are bunch of threads on HMB, usually people launch either at HMB Kayak (free parking, but don't park off-road) or by old pier (launch from yacht club or beach on other side of old pier).

Fish b/w 2 green buoys, one is west and one is south of jaws, zoom in this map. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zq2X4eUZhapc.kwW40zg_Vnow&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&z=13&om=1

Lots of old threads on fishing HMB if you try the search function.  No big secret for HMB.  Head out to the green or red cans and fish the reefs.  Just be very very aware of the King's Rock area to the jetty.  It can look calm or like a small wash rock, then suddenly large breakers form.

Right on, thanks guys.  I'm not on here a ton so I didn't even think to use the search function.  I'll do that now.

Thanks for the advice!  I really appreciate it.

One more HUGE safety issue... keep a keen eye on the wind conditions.  It's nice in the mornings, but come the afternoon (11AM~ish), the fan usually turns on and you could be fighting the wind and swells all the way back to the jaws (harbor).

I got myself in a bit of a predicament a few years back right off Baker Beach, so I check conditions like crazy before I go out.  That was also the lesson I needed to get a proper VHF with GPS haha. (Standard Horizon HX870)  Those lessons are nooooooo fun.

Really appreciate the heads up on that though.  Same with looking out for Kings Rock.  Wouldn't have known about that one.
