Heading up to Weaverville in June for some camping and need a recommendation for camp sites.  Looking for something on the water for launching kayaks and where the kids can swim and shore fish too.  Have stayed at Lewiston, and love it, but looking for something a little more family friendly.  We have a tent trailer.  Thanks.

Thanks guys.  We drove around a little and I think I remember Minersville.  Lots of sites kind of close together and a little off the water (closer though than most), but in the trees, which is hard to come by up that way.  How bout the beaches?  Good access or red mud?  Can't find much info on Coffee Creek but up at the north end away from the lake and a short drive to where the best SMB fishing is.  Don't remember the campground, but do remember a little store there.  Probably not the best for the kayaks but the family would enjoy it.  Not sure about a swimming area on the creek there.  Anymore info is appreciated. :smt001

Not alot of good beach at Trinity.  Mostly red clay.  Pinewood cove is a resort style campground that has a sandy beach.

Never stayed in a koa...but Pinewood Cove is a good campground if you need the amenities.  I prefer campgrounds without all the extras but sometimes ya gotta sacrifice...for the family harmony!  :smt003

I've never been to a KOA either but figure if I did Trinity Co might be the place to try it.  We've only stayed at Ackerman on Lewiston and I would gladly go back there.  It got hot the last time and we ended up at Stoney swimming area a couple afternoons.  So thought a site at Trinity would be a good trade off.  What I need is a better trailer.  My dad is in Weaverville so I like to get up there once a year to spend time with him.  I appreciate your insight and just might give Pinewood Cove a try this year.  Thanks again.

Tannery gulch campground  is a great spot. It has a boat ramp in the camp ground. But there's not many beach type areas there is a swim area about a mile away. I usually take my kids up the Stewart's fork there's some good pools to swim in.

All the areas mentioned are in the same area on the lake.  I look forward to exploring them this summer.  The family is liking the idea of pool and rec room at Pinewood.  Steve, when you say Stewarts Fork do you mean across the bridge and up the creek a bit?  How far up do you go?  Fishing is probably better now, but kids are in school.  Can't wait.

You can cross the bridge and take the road to Trinity alps resort and travel through the resort to trail head. They have to let you through as it is a public trailhead and there are several pools an riffles you can fish or swim there is an undeveloped campground there also. You can take the kids to the store at the resort for ice cream and such also. The mouth of the creek there is a good place for smallmouth bass and trout also.
