Calm water toy but wouldn't take it on the ocean under most conditions.

I just watched the video.
Looks uncomfortable as all hell.
Has Hobie 'Jumped The Shark'?

Completely.

And to answer Salty question- no no and hell naw. This is a total flop. An insignificant volume of consumers wd buy this thinking its for exercise. If you think the eclipse is exercise you have no business being on it bc it requires too much many collateral physical attributes like balance, swimming ability, proximity to flat water etc.

They cut it too fine here trying to hybridize a drive into a sup. Flop flop n fing Flawp!

I'm sorry guys, that'sounds just silly! What the hell, just buy a stair master! You could buy a nice kayak with the left over $!

Yoga pants in a wad?   :smt005

The price is definitely a drawback. Not exactly entry level. But if you look at how many sup boards are sold I would imagine there will be a market for this product. With kayakfishermen maybe not so much. :smt003

I would need to tow all my gear. Too many years in an Ocean Kayak, I envy the Hobie Drive.

I suspect part of their pricing strategy is based on the limited market focus, lower estimated sales, attempt to recover some initial engineering costs, etc.  We may not see it as a viable product in the Nor-Cal ocean region but there is water outside our local bubble & they kayak there too   :smt002

I predict that thing is going to Blow the SUP market away.    Brilliant idea.    But,,,, I've been wrong before.
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

Saw this SUP bike on craigslist and it reminded me of the Eclipse.
I'm not interested in buying...but I AM interested in that propulsion system. Anybody ever see one of these things in person?

That one uses a twisted chain drive. Prop shaft on bottom with small gear connected at the top of the tower to a bicyccle chain ring and crankset. Cheap to build. The Eclipse is a mirage type drive. I still think the bike chain prop system is more efficient AND reversable.
