Kinda late notice but I'm fishing the port in the morning around 7 AM.  Anybody's welcome to join me.  Channel 69 if you have a radio.

Well got out late had to package some baits, around 11am I was on the water. Hailed #69 for no response. Seen a few guys in Hobies way back past the 2nd cement docks, not NCKA. Here is my report...

Fished more south on the top outgoing tide. Water was 65 degrees and good vis, pale green. With the clarity I knew for striper it was going to be a reaction bite not giving these fish much of a chance to really look at my lure. Close to 20 striper caught, nothing big with maybe 8 keepers. Schooled up fish came on 3/4oz jig/spoon, underwater points used deep diving jerk bait and 3/8oz fish head spin with caffeine shad near steep banks. Most of these striper were in 25' - 10'. Found half dozen crappie too and missed a big one, maybe 15". All on small hair jig in bass pattern. All fish released.

Shad are moving in and it's a great time to fish the Port while the Sac is still blown out. Go get some!

Awesome report Mike.  I must have been asleep cause I only found a couple of 11-12 inch bass.  I threw swimbaits all day but apparently in the wrong places.  Took the bass on chrome/blue Rat-L-Trap.  I was in a Hobie the same color as yours.  You must be the fish whisperer. You jigged up some nice stripers....my FF was pretty blank most of the day.  I fished from 7-12.  Good job.

Headed back out tomorrow. Hitting the water around 9am till about noon. Need to pull a quick limit so I can get back and pour baits.

I like fishing the low tide, big fish come in shallow. Low tide pushes all the bait out of the grass and off those shelves. #69.

Come on out, crappie too I hope.

How did it go? I've been wanting to fish the port again and try for some crappie but I've had terrible luck in the past for them at the port.. do you launch there often? I used to fish from the bank in that area, but dont feel comfortable leaving my car alone there.. thanks!

I want to go too!  Do you mean Ramos Drive?
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Got on the water a little past 9am. WX was good, bit cloudy light winds. Water was 3' vis cloudy green, 67 degrees. After chatt'n it up with a banker and his son, I went to work. I quickly found a few good schools at the honey hole, going to call it this cause this underwater peninsula just seems to hold good fish. Found another school that looked to have some really big fish down a little deeper and was able to pluck one good one but it was shaker city on almost every drop. I got out of there and went back to the HH, found the school and pulled another good keeper. Limits by 10:30. I have to say, this chirp unit really helps me find good fish from shakers, talk about maximizing my time otw.

With taco meat in tow I headed to the docks for some crappie and a couple bonus LMB. I spent about an hour there for about a dozen small fish. They were really spread out. When I got out, wind was ah blow'n. Back to the truck and home for lunch.
