I'm seeing 7-8ft swells @ 15 sec.  Sounds like it might be a little bumpy.  Be safe dudes and get some!

Sounds like it will be building throughout the day with it peaking in the afternoon at 6-8ft.

All the more reason to get out there early

Exactly!! My plan is to be paddling out as the sun is rising.

Does anyone know if/when rock crab is open?  I caught a bunch of huge ones last time but threw them back and was told the season is closed.

They opened dungies up to mendo/sonoma county line today, but no mention of rock crab. Commercial dungies open in 7 days

I don't believe there was any mention of reds being opened up again.

I worked my rings and trap for about 3 hours for 6 keepers. Most of the crabs I got were in shallow close to the beach.

Fish Flogger: do you often get dabs in HMB? I've wanted to try for them but thought I might need to find deeper water than the normal kayak crabbing areas at HMB.

I saw several huge commercial vessels heading out. Presumably they were pre-soaking pots for the upcoming commercial opener. Goodbye crabs!

My first ocean trip in my Kayak to Doran yesterday- Crab opener 🦀

Flipped it upon entry, bump on head, gear everywhere, and
Lost my bait and crab measurement device. Welcome to kayaking Ken🤕
Tail between legs heading back to the car without my bait and crab size checker. Approx... 12pm
A friendly kayaker asked how was it?...so after my story and a laugh he gave me his crab measurement stick and said "don't let that stop the fun"
So I got back out there by the jetty (lesson learned) :) and came home with 8 Dungness crabs with 3 hours of soak time at 30 feet deep. I got a late start and a good beat down by a wave but in the end I came home smiling 🍻 And safe.
Trip one- lessons learned and a Big Thank-you to whoever gave me that measuring stick... I believe your name was Dan, who is trying to get back on this site. He forgot his password...Kayaker's are a great group of people and show great support!
Dan I will pay the favor forward!! Very grateful!
I can't believe how much I learned on one trip! I read so much about safety and does and don't and I had a perfectly clean and organized kayak that turned Into a soaked scratched sugar cookie in a matter of seconds...
On a final note, the boats that sped by as I was returning back to land soaked me, (another lesson) I need to turn into the wake, and I can't wait to do it again!!
