Hey guys!

I'm new to the Sacramento  area, and was wondering if anyone has been there and what people are fishing for?

If you look back through the reports section, you're likely to find a bunch of good info. You might also use the search function to narrow it down a bit.

Good luck! Don't forget to write a report to share the love.

Do you plan to launch up by Sacramento? I've never fished it up there.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Honestly I am looking to launch as north as possible. While still in the slough, from what I  can tell its a pretty large body of water so the options seem limitless

Check out the regs before you fish. If you launch above the Lisbon Weir, then sturgeon is a no-no.

If you do fish there make sure you bring some top water and glide baits ! Lots of levee breaks and flats with good current

Yet, the word lisbon is a nickname. Dont take me as a sturgeon poacher because those are fighting words which I take seriously. But every map on paper and or internet says that slough is prospect slough. Yet the new law as of march 1st states lisbon slough. Just fyi

The fisher doth protest too much, methinks.  :smt006 :smt044

Yeah, there is no consensus as to the names of a few of the sloughs in that area. As I remember the reg language includes yolo bypass, prospect, toe drain below the upstream section are off limits to sturgeon.

The wording  in the regs:

SPECIAL YOLO BYPASS FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEM STURGEON CLOSURE. IT IS UNLAWFUL TO TAKE ANY STURGEON IN THE YOLO BYPASS, TOE DRAIN CANAL, AND TULE CANAL UPSTREAM OF LISBON WEIR AT ANY TIME.

It says weir not slough where I saw it. The weir is the rock wall as people call it.

I myself actually call it lisbon. I and friends have some awesome spots along it. Or we did anyways! Those days are over though and its prably for the better honestly. My point though it lisbon is the slang term for the slough not the literal name of it. So for fish n wildlife to use the incorrect grammar in the law is just straight up retarded. They need to fix the new law with the actual name of that body of water. Until then it will hold no water in court if someone did fish there and got ticketed. Thats all.

What I said is in the law they never call it Lisbon slough, just Lisbon weir. The weir is the rock wall that creates a pool above so they can pump water out of it for ag irrigation. Everywhere I look and every map I see it is also only referred to as the Toe Drain.
