Number of Hooks Allowed for Sand Dabs vs. Halibut

So if I am reading 28.65 correctly  I can have 3 hooks when Halibut fishing in Paradise

If you mean Paradise up near Chico, I don't think you could convince any warden you were halibut fishing. If it is the "other" Paradise, I would hope there are no regs at all...

 

Might be thinking if Paradise in Marin ...

I caught my butt on an A rig with 3 hooks in Berkeley. For some reason I thought tomales was the same 3 hook rule! Guess I get to add two more hooks woohoo!

So running around trying to get ready to possibly take my alum out. Thanks for the info on sand dab. So, i am guessing if you start fishing for sand dabs you are downgraded to one pole vs multiple for halibut in the Monterey bay? TIA.

The way I read it, there is no restriction on poles/hooks for dabs or CA halibut in the ocean...

Answer: There are no hook restrictions for sanddab or California halibut, but if Pacific halibut, salmon, rockfish, cabezon, lingcod, or greenlings of the genus Hexagrammos are onboard, then only two hooks on one line may be used (California Code of Regulations Title 14, sections 28.65 and 28.20) . The gear restriction for Pacific halibut of no more than two hooks on one line is new this year (see pages 38-39 in the 2016-2017 Ocean Sport Fishing regulations booklet for the updated regulation).
