Striper love at Muir beach

I thought there might be more of them there... Decided against the braid and baitcaster and stayed with the sedona(great reel, thanx Mooch) and put 20 lb pline floroclear on the spare spindle, I think I like the give as opposed to braid in the surf.
One hit and one fish in about a million casts. I didnt move around too much, but I have a feeling therre are more..bigger...
Great weather, a bit of an offshore breeze. Caught on a 1" brown and white grub w/ a 17 inch leader. Slammed it

cool! congrats. take a look at the shimano spheros, less bearings, but still high end, more of a salt water reel I think.

Yup, the sedona is more of a fresh water reel, but I clean it VERY good every time I take it to the big blue, Ill have to invest in a salty spinner one day soon... But man was it fun! Skreemed the line out, bent the rod over, tourists yee-hawing.

mooch, sorry to hear you have never caught a striper in the surf.

It is really fun and you are missing out big time,  .

Maybe if you are nice, maybe help a surfer from the water or something,
sometime, (and no, the ones in bikini's in santa cruz don't count),
I will give you some tips on catching the wily striper in the surf.

After all, I caught a 7" striper while perchin' last year.

pretty studly, I know! yes, that is 7 inches, not 7 lbs, but we all have to start somewhere!  .

I would consider that "making bait"  but congratulations anyway  I can't really "Talk" cause I have'nt done any better than you....but, if I decide to be nice to a surfer in need....I'd rather just take a swim at Ano Nuevo when the seals are present and have a GWS feed on me...IMO: the pain would be comparable

Wow, although not impossible it is rare to see beach stripers caught in Early February.  Hopefully it is a sign of good things to come.  Maybe because of the lack of rain the river stripers are heading down to the ocean earlier. HMM.

i can remember as a kid throwing mickey jigs at Taraval hole (I lived on 33rd ave), to stripers marauding bait. My bro always caught more than me. THat's when i first started catch and release- mostly because we had to carry them back home AND clean them.

I caught my first surf striper on Tuesday at Salmon Creek in Bodega...also grubbin' for perch. A monster 13"er.

In the 80's & early 90's when the salmon runs were thick along HMB you'd be mooching and sometimes it'd be like "striper anyone?" and all you had to do was pull out the hairraiser and say "don't mind if I do"

Blue - this year, it will be my mission to find those Striper at HMB. I remember driving by HWY 1 after work (I was gonna check the trash bin by the launch ramp to see what the boaters have been catching) and seeing the pelicans dive bombing a hundred yards off surfer beach - I only wish I had my kayak on me that day 
Last year, I also trolled a big magnum rapala along the beach South of the Pacifica Pier. The conditions were perfect enough to where I was within 30 feet from the shore line. I had one massive hit - paddled a few more strokes to help set the hook, then I pickup the rod and felt a really WIDE HEAD SHAKE  ...my line peeled fast and I felt another head shake and it was gone I thought maybe it was a big striper...or it could have been a thresher..... I hate mystery fish 

I remember, I was fishing with you that day at LM, I heard a scream from afar. You were bummed it got off.
