Hey guys I'm planning to ride up to Canada on my motorcycle next month and plan on camping at Shelter Cove on night 1.  I'm planning on bringing my rod and a few swimbaits, how easy is it to get a nice rockfish or ling for dinner from shore?, or should I just plan on stopping at a burger joint prior to heading there? Also, any other fishing destinations along the way you guys would recommend? Thanks

If the ocean's flat you can try Abalone Point at the north end of the airstrip.  I've caught lingcod there on a swimbait, but it was a very flat day - otherwise it's a total washing machine at that very exposed spot.

If it's on the rough side and you have a low tide to work with you can hop out onto the rocks down the stairs from the lighthouse.  Lots of smaller fish in there, but the potential for a big cab or even a lingcod is there.  I soak bait in this spot, but if you have clear water then toss your swimbait all over the place - pretty snaggy with lots of kelp.  Ideal spots are where you can just drop bait into 2 feet or more of water with access to deeper channels - they'll come looking for something like squid, mussels or abalone gut.

Best of luck and have a great trip.   :smt001

Shore fishing for rockies/cabs/lings is pretty good at the cove! Stay mobile and try a few different spots. And always keep an eye on the ocean.

Seal rock is good.  A couple buddies of mine caught 15-20lb lings soaking a herring a few years ago there.

Wow thanks for the info guys and I'm coming up from 101.  I actually was thinking about camping in Humboldt Redwood park near the Eel River and immediately thought about Eric and all of his great adventures there but I couldn't pass up visiting Shelter Cove from all the stories.  I'll take pics and can't wait.  Nothing better than fishing, riding and camping  :smt001
