Yes, we will be fish printing again at GS for one more year!  If you haven't participated before and have always wanted to, this is the year to join us!  Here are the details for the 5th Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza.

The event will be held on Saturday May 21st following the GS10 tournament from NEW TIME 2:00pm -4:00pm at the campground – it may be the same location as last year at the kayak/gear wash station near bathrooms or we may be setting up behind the stage. Final location and information of the event will be announced at the mandatory meeting Friday evening.  This event is open to all ages attending GS10.  Children MUST have parental supervision to participate.  NO exceptions!

This event does not happen successfully without the great help of volunteers. I am hoping those who helped me last year will again this year – and of course I am always looking for additional help! More the merrier! Volunteers, please PM me your email address so that I can provide you more volunteer info. Thanks!

The plan is for us be ready for all those interested in fish printing by or just before 2:00pm.  Please allow Team Gyotaku the opportunity to fully set up before you come over.

I am hoping to utilize a covered tent to protect us and our artwork from the sun if the winds don’t make a sail out it like last year.

I will have at least two to three picnic tables for your fish printing creativity.  Provided will be newsprint, fabric paint (black, white, red, yellow, and blue), brushes, and possibly a limited amount of donated white t-shirts.  Bringing your own t-shirt(s), paper, table cloth, chef’s apron, whatever material you want to print your fish on is highly encouraged. GS Gyotaku shirts can be pre-purchased with your registration for $20.  Shirts can be purchased at the event for $20 while official GS gyotaku shirt supplies last. Donations to offset the material costs are always appreciated!!  The only thing you need to bring is a fish (we will not be providing fish) and the desire to make a print with it.  Please remember to take your fish with you after printing!

Once you have finished your fish print/shirt, we can take a photo of you and your print/shirt to share here on NCKA (optional) and hang your print / shirt to dry.

We will have a fish washing station to rinse the paint off your fish too.

Those who pre-order or purchase official GS Gyotaku shirts logo’d with ‘Gimme Shelter Gyotaku’, and WEAR your freshly fish printed ‘Gimme Shelter Gyotaku’ t-shirt to the potluck, at least the kids (15 yr or younger) will have an opportunity to win a cash prize!  Sorry, prior years fish printed shirts, blank non GS Gyotaku or the GS10 shirts that come with your registration are not eligible. More information to come!

Let’s get ready to have some fun printing fish!!!!

Brandi do you sell gyotaku yourelf? If so I'd be interested. I love it. Unfortunately will not be able to make the event. I think what I have seen has been on rice paper correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I'm interested in. Thank you Jason B

Hi Jason,

Bummer you won't be making the event.  I do not sell my fish prints but I certainly have a lot of fun making prints for personal uses!

The event is structured towards having ALOT of fun for all ages.  We set it up with more basic materials - newsprint, t-shirts and fabric paints - so people can create a personal keepsake from the event.

We are just shy of two months away from GS fun!  I wanted to remind all the 5th Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza will be happening following the GS10 tourney May 21st.  I have already heard from a couple of volunteers, but to have full event success, would like to have more volunteers.  It is great fun!!  PM me or send me an email (put fish print or gyotaku in subject line please) if you are interested in being apart of the Gyotaku Team!

FYI - I may not be able to respond Apr 17 - May 2, but hope to have internet access during that time.

Thanks all!

Brandi - Thanks for bumping your message here.  Things are slow because signups for the tourney are down, so maybe the Extravaganza will be much more manageable this year!

I haven't been promoting GSX much because I want those who attend to be people who know of the event or have heard of it and who want to be part of the vibe we have.  Shooting for quality over quantity, and we'll see what happens over the next month.  If the roster picks up a lot between now and April 20th we can appeal for the volunteer help needed once you get back in early May.  I presume you're doing divemaster on a long range trip?  :smt001

Hi All!!

I am back from my Bali journeys and getting excited about GSX and the 5th Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza!

In the next couple of days, I will be sending an email/PM out to those who have volunteered to help with the Gyotaku event in past to see if they are interested in helping again. I have already been contacted by a few who will not be there this year :(  I am in need of a few more volunteers.  It's really fun to be a volunteer!  And yes, you will have an op to print your own fish too.

If you are interested, please reply here, send me a PM or email me [email protected] (put gyotaku in the subject line)

More info about the event to come!!
Thanks, Brandi

Hi Brandi,

I did the Gyotaku for the first time last year - it was really cool!
I would like to volunteer this year.
Might be able to get my wife to help too.

Volunteers!  I just you an email.  If you didn't receive it, let me know!!

I will be arriving mid to late afternoon on Thursday, camping at an unmarked campsite near the event site next to the fence under the tree (same campsite I was at last year). If you want to help out with Team Gyotaku, stop by and let me know!

Thanks!

Rain stopped and no strong winds - the weather cooperated for a change!

The 5th Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza was well attended and art was made!

NCKA has such a great community!!  Need to share the gratitude! Thank you to my camp neighbors who helped set up the tent the day before and strike the day after (you guys ROCK!), for the loan of folding tables (Thanks Codzilla!), all the volunteers (12 volunteers!! 2 who came over the hill just to help out with the Gyotaku Extravaganza - but now they want to become more involved with NCKA!), everyone who came and created art with their fish, Jack the Campground owner and finally thanks to Eric Stockwell who is extremely supportive of this event.

Short report and photos to come!!

It was nice having you as our camp neighbor Brandi! We've camped in that spot 2 years straight now and will be there next year. Give us a call and we can help with the set up and break down again. Thanks for hosting the gyotaku every year!

Great job Brandi on the Gyotaku Extravaganza.  The fish prints on the kids t-shirts were awesome.
