I haven't had their goat meat, but http://www.hansonfamilyfarms.com/products.html has very good bacon and goat pepperoni. I imagine their goat is as good.

They go to farmers markets, so maybe they'll be at one near Vallejo?

Not sure about your opportunities down there, but after summer fair season 4H kids here always have young goats to sell.  Great opportunity to support our young people and stock the freezer with delicious goat meat.

Best time down here is Aug-Oct when we have local Monterey Co, Santa Cruz Co & San Benito Co. fairs.  You will pay a higher price per lb., but you are supporting the local youth and generally get a far better cut of meat because they are handled 1-on-1 vs. heard grown.

While we are on this topic, here is a great write up on goat meat in the New York Times.  Most widely consumed meat in the world.  Lower fat than chicken.  Higher protein than beef.  I always used to eat it Birria style on Saturdays in the SF Mission District at Los Jarritos (now called San Jalisco).  Check it out.  The owner has had the place forever and loves to do a lot of the cooking herself, along with a lot of family.  Tasty!!!!

Here's the article:

Not sure how legit it is, in fact I'm pretty sure its well onto the sketchy side, but there's a guy in the Westwood area of Napa that sells them right from the pasture. He sells the youngsters in the spring/summer and the older goats year round. I've seen more goats leave there crammed into the backseat of a Camaro or being walked down the street through the neighborhood (with dudes using their belts as a leash) after being purchased.  :smt102 I think he advertises on Craigslist.
