If you are towing a trailer or driving a motorhome down the hill the best way to do it is this: Put vehicle in low gear, stay off of brake, when braking is needed, do not drag the brakes, apply even pressure till you almost stop, then repeat. Dragging brakes makes them hot and lose efficiency. Getting on them harder, then releasing will serve you much better.

Just a reminder for everyone to check your brakes before heading to Shelter. Was doing my truck oil change yesterday and noticed my pads were wearing thin. I remember the past few trips to shelter getting that burnt brake smell by the time we reached camp.

Herb

For those that don't know, in order to reduce the wear on your brakes, go to a higher gear on the way down. The higher gear will slow down the speed of the car going down and the need to use too much braking power.  FYI. It helps. See you boys in a few days!

I'm still having fevers and my energy level is low.  If I don't improve enough I'm staying home.  I have never been down this long.  I'm just glad it happened now instead of on the Islander trip.   I'm probably going to get a penicillin shot in the ass to speed things up.   I hate laying around all day when I got shit I need to get done. :smt009 :smt009

Work is done and schedule cleared. I just have to bleed my brakes (Les Scwab, looking at you!) replace defective driver side power window motor and regulator, pack, pre-tie, do some drilling on the kayak to complete my tether and QRAS / ingenious crab trap carrying contraption (evil mwahahahaha laugh here), pick up some oysters and get in my way. See you Thirsday early afternoon.

Anyone willing to shuttle a car for me in Shelter Cove environs?  I've got some hike recon to do Thursday afternoon and will need a vehicle shuttle. Let me know and I'll find you. I plan on camping as close to the NW corner of the campground as is available.

Hey Doug, I should be in camp all day thursday ,I'll help you with the vehicle shuttle
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

3 days before we are to leave to incredible Lost Coast for some MUCH needed water therapy and time with my second family, I have some other family issues that need to be addressed and won't make it up.  :crybaby2: Please send my gear with Frank and Bunny.

Sorry to hear of the change of plan, hope the issues are resolved to your satisfaction. We'll miss you and your skills in the taco shack!

The forecast keeps improving.  Still cooler than normal and still prepare for a bit of rain but winds and seas are down considerably.  It can rain all it wants if the wind and seas are down.
