Hey y'all.  I'm planning on coming to Gimme Shelter, but I need a sponsor...

Anyone want to sponsor little ol' me?

I hope to fish with some of you before then to prove myself worthy, but I'd like to register sooner rather than later.
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

You dive and have family down here in Monterey County right? You can't be all bad.  :smt002

I'll sponsor you, but it would be wise to hook up with other folks for fishing OTW since I most likely will be diving and not fishing.

Oh yeah, and bring some cash for the bar at the top of the ramp...my sponsorship fee is 1 Bikini-Tini  :smt005

Sincerely,

Jim

+1

I was just kidding about the Bikini-Tini sponsorship fee BTW...any and all donations of Bikini-Tinis are purely optional.

Just an FYI,
We had a cancellation and now have a full suite available for the event week. If you are looking for a great place to bring the family/wife/significant other without all the camp hustle and bustle, give us a call at the Tides Inn.

P.S.
If my son is able to make it up during the event, he will be offering shuttle service up and down the hill (hotel guests have first priority)

I haven't done my paperwork yet but I will be there for sure. I am staying at the Tides inn wed-mon. The tacoshack will be rockin hard so share the love and bring a jug of your homemade salsa so we can take it up a few notches.

I finally got around to sending off my registration today, should be there soon.

Did I read correctly that I don't need to reserve a camping spot?

You shouldn't need to reserve a camping spot, seabird.  They give us a huge group area - it's $25/night per person, but it's worth it, IMO.  Keep checking on it for yourself though to be sure.

Jack - I'm stoked that you're bringing your Taco Shack for, what, a fourth year in a row?  Fifth?!?...  Your gig has been so outstanding.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart, brother.  Let me know what size hoodie you want, and GS will sport some hats for your crew.  :smt001

Abalone Diving at Gimme Shelter:

- Shelter Cove is a great place to dive, but the conditions must be right.

- It's often rough and low visibility, so don't force it only to suffer and endanger yourself and others.

- If you do catch some calm and clear water, be ready to experience a little piece of potentially virgin territory.  My advice on a very nice day:  take your time, pass up the big 9"+ hogs, look for that trophy you've been dreaming about, and don't sacrifice your honor for lust!

- We've had some incredible good fortune during the GS weekend - quite a few ten inch abs, speared fish, scallops, and all the uni you could ever hope for!

- In the past I have hosted a "Hike and Dive" where a few dozen of us did a six mile roundtrip from Black Sands Beach and scored a half dozen or so nice abs, and last year's followup which was much more low key and not productive due to conditions.  This year, contingent on a good forecast, I'd like to hit the AM low tides on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24th and 25th.  The mission would be from before dawn until early to mid afternoon.

Who's interested?

Qualifying statement:  None of those abs were easy to get, and, ultimately, the length of the ab is secondary to the adventure that's tied to it.  I've pulled many abs, trophies or not, where the experience meant way more than the length of the shell I was taking home.

X 100.

I've gotten two tens from up there (and my first one ever!), but every single dive I've done up there has been an incredible adventure.  :smt007

Here's a few pics and two vids...the first one was the best diving conditions I've ever had up there...second one was the worst.   :smt005
