Moss landing sand dabs Sat. 2/3

We'll be meeting at 7AM at the boat launch near Kayak Connection to target sand dabs off Moss landing.The weather looks good and if the swell stays down this should be a fun way to catch dinner.

Dude, I wish I could go but my son has a basketball game....I would lose major WAF points if I even considered it.  If you are up for a back-to-back, let me now.

Nomad, This was the best we could come up with for the weekend with the Superbowl on Sunday.If it works out I'm sure I'll be going again.Stay tuned.

Oh yeah....forgot about the Super Bowl...Going pig hunting the weekend after...we'll hook up one of these days.

I might be there as my kid has a bye in basketball this week.  I will confirm later.  I will probably bring along my crab traps as well if I go.

Sackyak, The crabbing has been good recently.As you probably know, commercial crabbers work not far from where we'll be fishing.Bring your traps and the more areas we can cover the better in our search for the sand dab bonanza.

Crabbing and Dabbing combo sound great.    I'll be there, pending no surprises.  Never launched from Moss Landing.  Anything I need to know about the launch and parking?

Henry - I believe it's 6 bucks to park and launch at Moss....there's free parking at the other side of the Harbor - don't exactly know how to get there - I'm sure Alex / Aliens can direct you there.

As far as the paddle back to the boat launch, make sure you time the tides right. If the tide is flushing out of the Harbor mouth, you may have to paddle twice as hard coming in = NOT FUN AT ALL

Mooch has a good point, the tide will be coming in during the launch at 7-7:30 to a high of 5.5 at 10:30.Then it will be going out to a low of -0.3 at 5:33.We should expect the tide to make the paddle through the jaws a bit of a workout.

I didn't want to say this because I didn't want to discourage anyone, but this is not for beginners.We'll buddy up the best we can, but Moss landing does have it's share of hazards.The swell and winds should be pretty calm, but there will be some water movement due to tides and there will be some pb traffic.For those of you that are strong paddlers and know what you're doing it shouldn't be a problem.Stay safe.

Long time  no fisssssh.  The paddle out of the Jaws is not to difficult I'm sure you gone through a lot ruff er conditions. I don't see it being to choppy this week end. Hope to see ya there.

I just heard a report that good sized Pacific mackerel have been on the bite in Monterey Bay.Not sure if we'll see the schools, but there's a good chance and they are definitely around.

Thanks for the heads up, guys.  From my experience with people on this board, everyone seems to have their heads screw on straight.  I'm sure we'll stay safe, have fun.  Having a bit of an adventure or a workout once in a while is good for the heart and soul  I'll do my best not to get flushed away by the tide

I use a sabiki rig.I get the P-line sabiki micro squid at Long's Drugs and tip them with small squid strips.I use this rig with a 3-4oz pyramid sinker and it works for both mackerel and dabs.You can also just tie a surf leader with 10-20# line with two dropper loops, attach swivels to the loops and some sz 4 snelled hooks and bait with squid strips.Fish the bottom for dabs...fish the upper water column to the surface if there are signs of macks.
