This is stupid.

What is your problem then?? What do you think we should have done differently? What do you think should be done differently in 2016?

Attached are screenshots from our few discussions about Junior fish.

Andy,

Here is the fish in question...same fish submitted 4 times. Verified once for Andrew and rejected the other times.

I just went through every single other Junior submission for 2015. No other rejections.

Anything else??

Lets try to keep disappointing kids to a minimum.  Don't reject their fish under the adult standards.  Sure, if the fish is submitted as the wrong species then reject it.  But open mouth?  Tahts already a dubious rule - one that kayak wars and nwka aoty don't even follow.  To hold kids to that standard is bad.

My recollection is that somehow brains fish got entered under the mickfish handle...don't ask me how...unless mickfish tried to steal Andrews fish  :smt005

So in that screenshot the ones that got rejected under mickfish handle were brians...brian and Andrew were fishing together out there right?

What got submitted was the same fish 4 times as you can see in the pic...

Besides that I honestly don't see ANY other pics that were rejected...every time I saw a junior fish in AOTY or DOTY pop up I verified it ASAP.

That's it.

If you or anyone else wants Junior fish handled differently please speak up...seriously...this was our first year doing this and we thought it went great...I guess not everybody agreed.  :smt009

The only problem I have is the location of the awards ceremony coupled with the requirement that a kid be present to be entered into the raffle for the boat.  If I had known it was going to be in Merced county I wouldn't have told my kid about the boat, and I wouldn't have had to tell her that she wasn't going to the awards ceremony so she had no shot at the boat.  It just wouldn't have been part of the equation.  Last year was in sonoma county.  What is so wrong with a central location?  Or having it on a holiday weekend?  Or not requiring the kid to be present to win?

Ugh, i'm with doug on this.  I don't recall the requirement that the kid would have to be present for the raffle - maybe it was mentioned somewhere earlier.  Its easy for me to get to since I'm only an hour from there, but it would be real tough on others.  If I had mentioned to my kid about the potential for a new kayak in a raffle (I did, but my kid is 4 and not exactly caring) which brought their hopes up, then had to drive 6 or 7 hours one way, that would kind of stink.  I understand that the sponsor wants to get a picture of the kid with the prize for their marketing, but I can imagine that working in other ways, such as picking it up at the sponsor's store, etc.

I for one was hoping the location of the awards would be more centralized so we would achieve the maximum participation and hopefully have all the kids attend. But that's not the case and I apologize to those that would have to travel 6-7 hours one way to attend. I don't know that I would either.

The sponsor hasn't asked for the photo of the kid with the kayak at all. I seriously wanted to have all the kids attend so we as a community could show them how special it is that they got out and fished this year and how special it is to be apart of NCKA.

For me this is and has always been about the kids not the competition and that is why no Jr fish was to be DQ'd. Me personally I was only able to fish with my daughter 4 times this year and I will forever cherish those four trips. I also got to spend sometime on the water with MightyQ and this again was another day I will always remember. I've listened to guys talk about the time spent researching fish and then going out to target them with success and hearing how proud of their kids they are. I've watched the videos of Jayhyuk and his dad out fishing/diving together and they would make my day. I could keep going.

So with all of this said I do not want one kid to miss out on the chance to win the Hobie Sport because they can not attend the awards ceremony due to location. So I alone am making the decision that the only qualification for a kid to be entered into the drawing for the Hobie Sport is that they entered at least one fish into the 2015 JA/DOTY. If you have a problem with this take a number and know I won't be getting back to you.

For clarification the only raffle for the Jr's will be for the Hobie Sport. The rest of the prizes will be laid out and the Jr Anglers will be able to choose the prizes in order of how they placed in the competition. So you will need to be present to choose the prize and there may not be enough prizes for every Jr Angler. Unless you wanna help me solicit them.

The Jr Divers will be given a prize with their plaques as there was only 3.

Sorry if this pisses anyone off but I'm sure you'll get over it.

I will see everyone on Feb 6.

As I recall having the kid in attendance to win the yak was mentioned in the very first post from James about this event.

As far as following the same pic protocol as from DOTY and AOTY going forward I don't see a problem. Since it's the parents taking the pics in most cases and not the kid.

I wouldn't DQ a fish for not having a mouth fully closed if it's just one fish to get the kid in the running for a yak though.

Right on James!

It just occurred to me that if you wanted everyone to be there then uncoupling it from the aoty ceremony would work. Hold it at crabfest and that accomplished the central location and takes it off of a junior waterfowl date.

But your way is better.

X 100.

Working on taking better pics may be a skill a kid WANTS to do as preparation for future comps when older, but not all kids are in to that!
