secret river state beach 2007 01 27

The sixmegahertz man,  his son riley and I perch fished secret river state beach today.

riley and greg had never tried the grub variant of this sort of fishing.

We fished from 10a.m to noon or so, not really the best tide, but we found fish anyway.

greg hooked up on his first ever cast of a grub. same as I did once too. grubbing is fun!

I brought home a 12.5" and 11.5" to test in the smoker. probably I will decide it is too much
work but we will see how it tastes.

riley got a fish too, but also nailed his own ear later,  .  It turned out that he was
looking for appropriate fashion accessories for his football party later so he opted to leave
the grub hanging from his ear for the rest of the day. looks good with a little blood!

We saw no less than six wrecks on 17, including a pickup truck hanging from the side of a
cliff by only his front wheels...   knuckleheads!

the weather cleared up over the hill tho and we fished in nice sunny offshore conditions.
water is nice and clear, we saw surf scoters and harbour seals which are signs there are
plenty perch and perch food about.

Sounds like a fun session.I'm going on a perching/scouting mission tomorrow.Hopefully the rain clears up.It's pouring here at Manresa right now

it took a lot of anesthetic but the Dr's managed to get that hook out of there.  and just when the little guy thought he was in the clear they told him about the tetanus shot he needed...

That looks absolutely bad-ass!  Way to tough it out.

Way to go Vern!!!   I'm glad you waited to do that with your Dad...Grandpa would have just shortened your ear a bit , so remember, don't try that up here in I-O-A!!!   Of course, if you tried that up here right now, your ears would have just fell off...frozen...and you wouldn't have felt a thing .

See ya next summer, we'll do some fishin' out of a real boat then...right .

Those perch are pretty good smoked. Not as good as salmon or rockfish, but
definitely pretty good.
