This is regarding ocean fishing.

Does everyone here wear a wet suit?

If so what do you wear with it? A jacket? Something else?

If you don't wear a wet suit what do you wear?

Do you wear anything over the wet suit like a jacket?

I wear a Kokatat dry suit in bright yellow, thermal underwear as appropriate for the conditions that day and a kayak-purposed PFD.  For may hands, anything from neoprene gloves to lightweight fishing gloves.  I also wear on my vest; a diver knife, a VHF marine band radio, an emergency strobe on top of my shoulder that is water activated, a signal mirror, a small compass, 20' length of clothes line-type cord, a whistle, cell phone in a sealed clear bag, laminated card with name and vitals.

I wear a wet suit with all the safety gear over. I wish I had a dry suit though.

I put on the following in this order:
Performance/Non-cotton underwear
Thin wool socks
Wicking Long sleeve shirt (optional)
3mil Farmer John
NRS Workboot Wetshoes
Fleece Top w/ Thumb holes
Buff over hears and head
Hood from Fleece
Beanie
Breathable Rain Jacket w/velcro wrists
PFD w/Knife, Radio, Whistle

I've been wearing just about all of this for the past month and a half. Even in fresh water, if it's cold enough to wear a beanie, it's cold enough to wear a wetsuit. I don't find mine to be uncomfortable and it helps keep me warm. The rain jacket is largely to keep water off the sleeves of my fleece, though it does help with the wind and the occasional mist/rain.

It might seem like a lot, but it's all relatively thin and light and I stay nice and toasty in the near freezing temps.

A paddling jacket over wetsuit and rash guard is good wind protection

Speaking of wet suits.

I'm 5'10" and 125#'s. I don't know what size I need?

Is a wet suit something I can buy on Amazon or do I need to go to a dive shop

There's no dive shops near me any more.

Where's a good place to go? I live in Union City.

I wear a full wet suit if it's cool or a shorty if it's warm out.  With the full suit I wear wet suit booties and a fleece sweatshirt and light rain jacket.  With the shorty I use a pair of Lycra cycling leggings over my legs and a  long sleeve rash guard or compression shirt under the wet suit.

That said, I have a dry suit on order and will be trying it out soon!

Santa Cruz is a good place to buy a wet suit. They have tons of surf shops and outlets.

I wear a 4/3 mm wetsuit and a sweatshirt and my life jacket. Sometimes two or three sweatshirts if it's really chilly.
