Hi guys,

Last minutes travel plan to Honolulu on New Year.   Would love to spend a day kayak fishing there if I can rent a kayak and fishing tackles from a local fishing/diving shop there.  Any intel or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I think you will have a hard time finding someone to set you up for kayak fishing out there due to the shark factor.

I asked around a little when I was on Maui, and mostly got the "you're f*cking crazy" look...

Good luck!

Not sure about Oahu but there must be something there.  I rented a kayak and fishing gear in Kona on the big island last summer and had a blast chasing pelagics.  And yes, I did see an enormous tiger shark.  It didn't eat me.

I've fished out of big island a few times, and Honolulu once.

I just brought my own reels and lures, and bought a cheap tiger ugly stick at walmart. I forget the name of the place we rented the yaks from, but it was over on the other side at that big ass bay, near that ocean park thing. I didn't bother to tell them I was fishing.
Just trolled the flats arundel that bay, got a couple of barracuda, and some little-is Jacks on rapalas.

Thanks for the inputs guys.  So far I've found a kayak rental place around the North shore close to Turtle Bay.

My man Nic G moved from Humboldt to Maui with his wife and baby several months ago, and now he's all into the yak fishing and has a sweet mothership - he might know some Oahu opportunities too...   I think he's most easily contacted through Facebook - try a private message to him or post in Lost Coast Kayak Anglers.  Please tell him I sent you.  Have a great trip!   :smt001

Thanks Eric.  I just registered at the Lost Coast Kayak Anglers and look for his name on the member list but can't find Nic G.  What's his handle there?
