hey why dont one of you write an article on gear and tactics for this type of fishing and we can permanently post it..so wieners like me can read and learn .. :smt002 :smt044..

Here is your article if you want to hook YT at SCI.

Drift or slow-troll a live baitfish on a live-line set-up.

What's funny is that I wasn't even trying to be funny. Literally - that's all you do.

Get a decent rod with a decent reel, put some 30lb mono or braid on the reel, somehow attach a leader of 25lb or 30lb flouro to your mainline, tie on a hook (I like 2/0 Mutu Lite Circle hooks after this trip), put a live bait on the hook, let the live bait swim ~100' away, put your reel into freespool "clicker" mode or set baitrunner feature, and wait for something to take your bait.

YT fishing 101

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Bonita were some kind of fun... alas, no yellowtail for me but I had a few scream off with my bait. I caught 3 new species, Calico bass, pacific barracuda and bonita. I kept 4 bonita and a huge calico, had them fillet it, but when I opened the bag, there was only two fillets on bonita and a tine calico.... the only bummer of the trip but I def aint tripping cause my cat-daddt Dustin gave me two friggin yellowtail...... my bro...

I have so many pictures and so much to say but haven't found the time to write it all and I need to lighten my pictures up! First I wanted to report that I finally got some blood on the Piscean custom gaff I won at GSX and it was amazing!!

Went for a ride on the Islander in search of Yellowtail & other species???

Driftin’

Calico went for this?

Mark Lee scores a YT

Overall, my final catch wasn't great but I did get a yellowtail, and a sheepshead to bring home, and also caught and released a mix of sablefish, calicos and one of the below.

An evil little Sarcastic Fringehead.  :smt010

I was kinda spooked by the little bugger.

Just want to say thanks to Rock Hopper & all involved w/ putting the trip together. It was a trip of a lifetime - great crew, great weather, great fishing and my favorite part was hanging with some of the greatest people I will ever meet. Bushy, Dennis,Santos, and many more. Thanks again I'm ready for next year.

Just got in last night from our extended stay in SD. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the great times and the makings of a true dream trip. I feel privileged to have been able to hang out, fish and make lasting memories with you all.

After loosing my only hookup in two days and 20+ miles of trolling for YT on a trip three years ago to La Jolla, i have been haunted by the memory of that lost fish ever since. Even if I didn't catch a YT on this trip it would have been my favorite fishing trip ever, but to scratch that three year itch made it all the more epic.

Good times everyone! Thanks to Dustin and Bushy for putting this together, and thanks everyone for making it enjoyable, and memorable! The highlights of the trip were seeing the look on my nephew Dylan's face after landing his first yellowtail tuna on the kayak, and landing a bonito and halibut double at the end of day 2.

I made a fun little video from our short dive on the 2nd day! We pretty much had rock bottom and 30 + foot vis at every spot up until we moved here so we didn't dive the best spot but we found a few rock piles in the shallows and tried to find rocks out deeper but it was all sand! Had a lot of fun diving with Nick and Dennis!
