Buy the beer from the boat! These guys work there asses off for you. They charge like three bucks a beer. They had a pretty good amount the last time I was aboard. Only bring what you can fit in your backpack. My 2 cents. :smt006

I don't even think it was $3.

But yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing more than a 12er. I'll probably bring a bottle of Kraken or Crown Royal, though.  :smt002

OK, being as I'm new to this mother ship thing (bucket list item for me), i have a couple questions??

- I use CPAP machine when sleeping, otherwise I snore and it sounds like a landslide. What is the order of bunk selection on board the Islander? I need to be near enough to a 110V outlet to use the CPAP.

- What is the launch order? I assume the crew has this down, but i'm curious as to how 22 kayaks get into an out of the water from the Mothership? How much gear goes with the launch or is it all added after the yaks are in the water?

- I assume(?) the evening meal is a given, but during the day is the galley a no-host situation?

I have gained much info from perusing the previous Islander topics, but any updates on this 2.5 day trip would be appreciated. i learn a lot from the questions of others. BTW, I have a fishing partner (Phil Lopez/Lopezcador) on the paid list.

We can make bunk arrangements in this thread or decide when we board the boat. It's up to you guys. I'll post up the stateroom diagram this morning.

I need to be near enough to a 110V outlet to use the CPAP.

Each stateroom has a power outlet. Bring a power strip with a long cord so you and your bunkmate can each charge batteries and use your CPAP. In your case each of you may want to bring your own power strip.

- What is the launch order? I assume the crew has this down, but i'm curious as to how 22 kayaks get into an out of the water from the Mothership?

When we get to San Clemente Island in the morning the crew will start pulling the kayaks down off of the racks and lining them up along the deck of the boat. While on deck you can load up your battery(s), FF, etc. Try not to take too long.

How much gear goes with the launch or is it all added after the yaks are in the water?

When you are ready to launch you will gather your rods, gaff/net, paddle, etc and stage them near the launch steps. The crew will lower your kayak over the side and you simply climb down the steps and sit on your kayak. Members of the crew will steady each end of your boat while another member of the crew hands you down your rods, paddle, gaff/net, etc. They will then hand you your bait and send you off. If you have a live bait well you will take a lap around the boat to fill it and then paddle back and the crew will give you a scoop of live bait.

When coming back on to the big boat for a meal, a rest, or whatever, you repeat the process in reverse. The crew will steady your kayak as you hand them up your rods and paddle, then they'll help you up the swim-steps. Your seat, FF, bait tank, etc., can stay on your kayak. If we will not be making a move (and if it's calm enough) the kayaks will be tied off to the big boat and left in the water.

- I assume(?) the evening meal is a given, but during the day is the galley a no-host situation?

EVERY meal is a given. You will not go hungry. Breakfast and lunch are cooked meals, not bagels and cold sandwiches. I think there's also snacks served once or twice a day, but I've never been on the big boat long enough during the day to witness this.  :smt003

Here's the stateroom layout. Ben and I are more than likely taking Stateroom E.

I'm hoping to hear back by today or tomorrow whether or not the last two unpaid spots will be filled, or not.
