With bad weather in the ocean and domoic acid shutting down the crabbing, I am thinking what I can do in the next few days. Got an email from CDFW today  shown below that herring are in the bay, but am not sure where exactly they are. Given I will be driving up from south bay, I would hate to drive up without seeing any action. Does any one know where they are, and are they near the shore for netting? I went to Paradise Park two years ago for them, and it was a lot of fun. Thanks in advance!

Email from CDFW: Pacific herring were spawning along the Marin County Shoreline in several locations this week. The area between Sausalito and Bluff Point included Richardson Bay, Belvedere Cove and Keil Cove. Based on the egg coverage and the size of the spawn areas, a large school moved in sometime early in the week and continued active spawning through Thursday. Eggs and milt were also detected during our dive operations for subtidal vegetation. Further confirming the feeding activity by birds and marine mammals above the water was part of an active herring spawn. As of Friday a herring school remained in the area of Peninsula Point and large rafts of birds and mammals continued to feed.

Saw a lot of activity today over by T.I. Was working in the city and made a stop on my way home at T.I. On my way out I saw a ton birds dive bombing. Looked very active out there today.

Went to Tiburon pier last Saturday  and the run was over. CFG guys were there doing survey but no one caught herring that day (I got 4 jack smelt  :smt011).

Friday was the last day people caught a lot of herring at Tiburon pier and Peninsula point.

Hope there will be another run soon.

The other runs happen in early January so be ready. Other locations would be Paradise Park, San Quentin, Ferry Point,
McCovy Cove, ARW and Coyote Point.  The rains should get the herring spawn going over the holiday.

I saw a herring boat being towed on 101 a couple days ago. I figured it was starting.

Thanks everyone for the info. I am crossing my fingers that they will be here before work starts again
so I can make the trip.
