UPDATE:

Just got my hands on the new Elite Ti 7" unit and started playing with it a bit today.  Bright, clear display.  It's pretty darn fast.  Noticeable difference over the past HDI/CHIRP units IMHO.  The touch screen works well ... even wet my hands & tried it ... didn't skip a beat.  Bunch of the desired features commonly found on the high end HDS series, brought down to a mid-level unit such as: Touch Screen, Wifi/Bluetooth, NMEA 2000, CHIRP, SownScan, StructureScan HD, SmartSteer Control (for boaters) w/ MotorGuide, Engine/Data Sensor (some features only found on the Elite Ti 7" model).  What you loose vs. the high-end HDS series is pinch-to-zoom touch screen, 3D capability, Sonic Hub control (music), SmartSteer for outboard autopilot control, full Ethernet connectivity to Radar and no video input to make it a tv display.  Basically, they took feedback on what small boat & kayak anglers liked in the HDS series and brought it down to the Elite Ti series (varies by size).

The door covering the chart ship slot seems to be a huge improvement over the Elite 4 HDI/CHIRP units.  It's located on the face of the unit & has a much better seal IMHO.  The operating menu is (basically) identical to my higher-end HDS Series unit making the transition from this to the HDS on my boat seamless.  I have not had a chance to check out the TotalScan transducer yet so I'll weigh in as soon as I do.  Both the 5 & 7" models use a tilt/swivel gimbal bracket like the Elite 4/5 models do, rather than a 'u' bracket design with knobs.

   That is all for now....

I also really like the fact you don't need that U bracket for the 7, just use my RAM bracket plug. Awesome!

I want one of these units too!

So are you guys saying that the RAM mount that I'm currently using on my Elite 4 CHIRP unit will work on these new TI's???  What depth will the Totalscan reach??

The RAM bracket will work. It is sold in 2 different ball sizes.  The larger ball size is best.

So TotalScan will have your regular 83/200 to depths you are accustom to.  The 455/800 DownScan portion of it will be the same as you are accustom to if you have used a unit that had it.  Lastly, it will have the side scanning which, depending on water quality & depth is good to around 100/120 max with the sweet spot being within your casting distance.  Hope that makes sense.

I think my TotalScan ducer comes in tomorrow

Thanks Bill.  It was the sidescan part that I was wondering about.  I remember the older HDS with StructureScan only being about 100 ft on the sidescan.

As far as I know, its the same technology/elements.  The big difference is that they finally hand an "all in one" transducer with .... well .... all of it in one  :smt044 rather than two separate transducers.
