Or do you leave it in the vehicle.

Or do you have a second phone just for fishing?

I ask because there are app for fishing. I wouldn't want to lose my good phone. So I'm thinking about re-activating my old tracfone and just using it for fishing?

Thoughts?

Comments?

Which apps do you use if any?

I have a new iPhone 6s I fully intend to take on the water. But it's going to cost me another hundred dollars for a quality case and float. It's not going until then.  Even with a good carrier there's not much coverage on my portion of the coast  A quick call or text when I do have coverage is greatly appreciated by my family. I think the $10 Navionics boating app is freaking out standing  and will be a useful tool otw, it already is on land.Williweather is good and I'm anxious to be able to do on the water reports and some seamless photo sharing.

I only bring it when there is cell coverage.  I just put in waterproof bag.

Yeah this.  I will pull out the phone for navionics or a call sometimes but it lives in the dry bag.

I used the lifeproof with float for a while, but the lifeproof went way downhill and after the third time it failed I didn't bother replacing it even though every time it was replaced under warranty and it was still under warranty the last time.

I have my iPhone6 in a lifeproof case. Then I put it in a ziplock sandwich bag so the case wouldn't get totally submerged if I went in the water. If any water gets in the Baggie it wouldn't likely get through the case. It is still useable in the Baggie except for pictures. Even if you don't get cell service it can be used as a GPS mapping device. The Navionics app is great. At a minimum you can load a satellite view of the fishing area in Google maps before you leave cell service. Then you have an emergency backup in case your GPS dies.

I guess I'll have to get some dry bags?

Oh. I found a kayaking video in the pouch behind my seat in my yak. It's a how to ocean fish from a yak type video. I just watched it. Learned a lot. I just can't believe I didn't notice it for almost 9 months! LOL

If I left my phone in the car, I wouldn't announce it on the interwebs.  :smt002

Mine goes in a dry bag - really don't use it on the water except once in a while on flat water to take a pic or check a message.

I use the optrix waterproof case and keep my iphone in my pfd pocket or attached to a Scotty mount. Either way, it's tethered. I've got the navionics app and like that a lot.

I specifically got a Samsung Galaxy S6 because it was fully waterproof (but I haven't tested it yet).  I take it out with me for the same reasons noted... safer with me then in the truck, available for emergency calls/texts, as a back-up navigation device, etc etc.

I used to keep it in one of those cheap cellphone waterproof bags, but all the ones I tried were poor quality.  Now, I just jam it in my pfd pocket.

Sure, I'll take a $$ hit if it goes for a swim, but that's on me. I keep all my apps, contacts, and files backed up, so I don't worry about losing my phone.

One thing for sure to secure my phone from getting wet and still usable on the water!

I used vacuum seal the one we used to seal our fish before putting in a freezer
I don't use it to make a call unless I have a bluetooth, I just use it for texting and taking picture or video

I do have a Iphone 6 Plus and it's great when taking videos

That just me, vacuum seal is cheaper than spending $100 waterproof case

Peace
