Anyone going to fish the Super Bowl Sturgeon Derby for some SERIOUS cash prizes?
One entry fee ($30) for a 2 day event. I fished it last year. I was the ONLY kayak entered. Unfortunately there was no love for me.
First place for Saturday and first place for Sunday was over $9000 for EACH day!!!
It isn't the biggest fish either. They spin a wheel at 7AM Saturday at McAvoy Harbor in Bay Point to see what the target size is. Closest to that size wins. Last year it was 64''. Because it is not the biggest fish that wins it is really anyone's game.
I actually got a CF # last year so I could enter but when I paid my entry fee the guy said all I had to do was write "kayak" in the CF# portion of the entry from and that was good enough.
Guess I should have checked before I spent the extra $$ at DMV.
I have included an entry for for anyone who might be interested.
If you need more info I refer you to the phone number on the entry form. It is (925) 458-0647
I am in no way affilliated with this derby. I just wanted to let everyone know about it. Especially since there is such a monster prize involved.
How cool would it be to have someone from NCKA take the grand prize?????

Do you think the live fish rule might be an issue on a kayak? I think that would limit the places you could fish since the fish would most likely have to survive a car ride... It would be awesome though.

I just fished out of the harbor last year. I am working on logistics for a possible transport tho.
Where sudmucker and I fished last time there would be NO prob getting it to the shore alive. Very short paddle. Going from China Camp to the harbor I think would be possible but onw would have to be prepared for it. I could see a team effort in the making.

If you catch a 75 incher and have to cut off 11" to win, won't that jeopardize the fish being kept alive? :smt002
