I'm going to test do a submersion test with my radio now.  Hope they don't ask me which boat I'm in, while I stand in my kitchen and do a check haha.  Very prudent of you to follow up with the CG, but a bit disconcerting to know that they never heard anything.  Again, radio malfunction?  So weird.  What kind of radio do you use?  I've got a cheapo Standard Horizons one and I wonder if the more expensive GPS/SOS ones are more reliable or sturdier?  Marines are some strong men, glad you kept your head on your shoulders and stayed focus even after you got off the water.  Tough decision, and sad that it had to be made, to forego medical treatment, again marines are some strong men.

I've carried flares for a long time, so long that I can't remember how to ignite it and the label is worn off  :smt044.  Maybe it's time to replace them and get the smoke signals.  I make smoke signals every now and again, but it's not red :cowboy_smoke:

Glad you are okay Brother! I'm pretty sure when I was kicking you in you said something like, "Wow have you done this before or this is my first time" I don't quite remember what it was  :smt002 just remember holding you close lol.

Glad everything worked out.

The first time I have seen the radio since the incident. Like i mentioned, I believe it is about 5yrs old ? I put it on the charger and it usually responds quickly. No life right now. Will check later. it is always tethered to my life vest and in the pocket.

Glad that your safe Alex, that sounds like a really scary situation to be in.  I carry all those things myself, flares, whistle, pump, gps, 2x vhf, compass, paddle float, etc.  Still glad I've not had to use them however.

Then scramble around looking for strapping that I can attach to opposite side of kayak to pull underneath and attach to my foot as a stirrup and have some opposing egual resistance to get me aboard. No such luck, No strapping.

I was thinking about a makeshift stirrup.  Mind you I've never tried this before, but you have lot's of strapping if you're using a snap in seat (not a lawn chain style).  I just went out to my seat, and extended the side straps.  I have almost a full 5 foot span from end to end.  I'm pretty sure I could snap one side to the kayak and use the other as a stirrup.

Thanks for the input Allen. Definitely check to see if the straps would extend enough for a make shift stirrup . Adding some great safety gear to my arsenal. Was an expensive dip in the Ocean.  :smt011  :smt001

Thanks Al and Matt. Really think that paddle flotation would have made a world of difference. Wont be going out until I try it out at Antonio's pool.  :smt007. Will let Antonio know in advance so that I can try out some of that delicious cooking of his.  :smt003

Better get some new ones.
Those old ones might be barely enough to light your smoke.  :smt001
