Quite a few of you got blast frozen tuna from the Preamble during the crab opener at HMB last year. I was asked to let you know when they came back this year. Well they are here a few weeks early and are starting to sell tomorrow. Still $3/lb!

FYI they are also selling out of Noyo for a little less than $3. In case you can't get over to HMB.  Great for canning or smoking.

I like the blast or flash frozen.  The quality is usually better that way.

If I catch a few before the weekend. The bite on commercial grade salmon has been painfully slow. The water is way too hot. Hell, I saw tuna boil on the south side of deep reef two days ago.

So how did you process it? Steak it while frozen?

I fillet mine.  One of the crew offered to cut the head off with an electric saw, I said OK.  If its semi frozen you can fillet it at the cleaning station in front of Harbor Master Office.  If its hard frozen, soak it in water to thaw it out then fillet it.  Mine was semi frozen so I filleted it there at HMB.

Bring a good fillet knife and gloves, it can get messy.   I came back from a fishing trip so I had all my fish cleaning gear with me.  If you process it at home you gotta find a place to dump the carcass.

There's no way you'll process these fish without letting them thaw for 24hrs. They are blast frozen and hard as a block of ice.

Jedmo's alby thawed out very quickly last year...nowhere near 24 hours. And it was in a cooler packed with ice.
